Sympathy Sympathy is extended to his wife Alma, his son Graham and daughter Marilyn Marilyn and her husband Corry, all of Blackstock, to his sisters Myrtle, Helen Helen and Ruth and brothers Tom and Robert, their spouses and families as well as his many, many friends. The funeral service was held in Black- stock United Church which was filled to capacity on Monday afternoon. It was conducted by his minister, Reverend Reverend David Shearman, and included duets by Linda Kyte and Glenn L armer. Ross will be indeed greatly missed. Glad that Jean and Bill Ferguson have returned home from the western provinces. Their trip to visit many friends and relatives was extended when Jean had to undergo emergency , surgery in Calgary. A complete recovery recovery is wished for you, Jean. Many from this community attended attended the Golden Anniversary of Fred and Ruby (McLaughlin) Griffen on Saturday afternoon and evening at Tyrone Community Centre. Congratulations Congratulations and best wishes, Fred and Ruby. A correction in last week's news - Dolly and Ken Lee celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary not 40th as I reported. You both just look so young I couldn't realize it was 45, I guess. Best wishes for many more to come. The Figure Skating Club will hold registration on September 21 from 6- 8:00 p.m. at the Blackstock Arena. The Blackstock United Church Sunday School Registration Party will be held at the Church on Sunday, September 11 at the regular church service at 10:00 a.m. If interested, come and join the fun. The Blackstock District Girl Guides will be holding registration for Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides, Pathfinders, and Rangers on Monday, September 12, 6-7:30 p.m. at Black- stock United Church. On Tuesday Nancy Bryans, along with her sisters Virgy Piper and Barb Hac took Babe and Wilf Brown of Oshawa to Colbome and visited the Big Apple and the Hockey Museum. Later, the sisters celebrated their Dad's birthday with supper at North- ' umberland Heights. Congratulations to Dean Swayze and his father, Glen, of Glen-Dor Farm who won four 1st prizes, one 2nd and three 3rds in the Percheron Classes at the C.N.E. last week. There were 12 tables at the Tuesday Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following winners - Ruby Smith (92), Grant Bright, Alma Manns, Clara Clara Warren, George Haroer, Mary Pootsaand, Faith Lawrence. Lucky draws were won by Kay Beggs, Ner- ta Masters, Meta Swain, Muriel But- son, Clara Warren, Harold Swain. Now that our students are returning returning to university or college, I request that families let me know where the students are attending and the courses they are studying. Second Season for Philharmonic Choir The Durham Philharmonic Choir begins an exciting second season of fine choral music. This community choir, which is based in Oshawa, consists of about 45 mixed voices. The choir draws its members from throughout the Durham Region. Three concerts are planned for the season, with the first concert in November. November. It will be a Christmas program program with music by Pachelbel, Rutter, Rutter, Willan, and others. The DPC, under the direction of Robert Phillips, is currently recruiting recruiting voices. Two positions in each of the soprano, alto, tenor and bass divisions divisions are available. Weekly rehearsals rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from September to May.
