THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD WOMAN ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH - A presentation by the Company of Sirens theatre group on the topic of violence against women will take place on Thursday, November 3rd, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Bowmanville High School. Admission is free and the event is sponsored by Alliance House Inc. and the Ontario Women's Directorate. T-shirts made by women and children in the community who have been subject to violence will be on display. The programs for older adults arc offered at the Bowmanville Lions Centre from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The nutrition classes will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon, with Mary Beth Walters, Nutritionist at Memorial Hospital Bowmanville. There will also be several oilier activities, including line dancing, cards and other games, and a film or travelogue. Unique photos of Bowmanvillc's three train stations are also part of the exhibit. In llic doll gallery is a colorful display of over 80 dolls from around the world. Mayor Diane Hamrc will formally proclaim the week on Monday, November 7. On Saturday, November 12, there will be a multicultural celebration in the afternoon at the Bowmanville High School. Hours arc from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can enjoy multicultural food, music, costumes, songs and dances at the high school. Then, on Wednesday, November 16, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of Unity in Diversity. This discussion takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Ontario Street Public School in Bowmanville. Panelists include a delegate from the Ministry of Citizenship, Dr. David Smith of the Hospital for Sick Children and a local representative.
