Drama Workshop Rehearses New Production philharmonic Choir Performs Nov. 27th On Saturday, November 19, 1994 Friends of Music presents the second exciting concert in the '94-95 season' The. internationally acclaimed ensemble ensemble Tafelmusik has been hailed by The New York Times for performances performances "close to the kind Bach himself himself knew". In Germany Tafelmusik was called "an ensemble to be prized, one of the best in its field." Founded in a Toronto church basement in 1979, and directed since 1984 by the virtuoso violinist Jean Lamon, Tafelmusik's unique sound has delighted audiences in France, Germany, Japan, Denmark, and Spain, as well as fans at the popular Prom Concert at Royal Albert Hall in London England. Tafelmusik also tours regularly in the United States, and also performs an annual thirty- five concert season in Toronto. All the members of this very special special Baroque orchestra are specialists in historical performance practices, researching original scores and antique antique musical toys to reconstruct the original sound of Baroque and early Classical composers. The difference between Mozart and Telemann played by a modem orchestra and a period group include the use of string instruments made of gut, which gives a warmer sound than modem metal strings. In 1991 Tafelmusik signed a recording recording contract with Sony Classical, recording works by Gluck, Mozart, Vivaldi, and Gcminian for international international distribution. Their discography also includes Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Cantatas, Concertos, and Magnificat, with soprano Emma Kirkby, and the II //> n £ The Durham Philharmonic Choir, under the direction of Robert Phillips, Phillips, begins its second season on Sunday, Sunday, November 27, 1994 at 8:00 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church (Centre and Bagot Sts.) Oshawa. The program is entitled "TIS THE SEASON", and will feature Johann Pachelbel's recently discovered 'Magnificat', for choms, trumpets and organ. Guest trumpeters will be Susan Barber and Karen Gustafson. There will be other seasonal choral choral music by Rutter, as well as a selection selection of compositions by Canadian composers including Willan, McNutt, Somers, and others. Their recording recording of Boccherini's Concertos for Violincello and Symphonies won a Juno Award in 1990, and was The New York Times Critic's Choice for 1989. By 1992 they had recorded twenty-three discs, and made plans to produce recordings of all 107 Haydn symphonies with German conductor Bruno Weil. Their concert in Port Hope at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th, 1994 at Port Hope United Church promises to thrill fans of all ages.
