Productive Week for Crow's Sports The Clarington Independent, Bowmanvillc, Saturday, December 3,1994 9 The Crow's Sport major atom Toros Toros had a very busy and productive week. Last Saturday night, the Toros avenged an early season loss in Orillia by defeating the Terriers by a 10-4 score at home. Tyson Crocker nullified an early lead when he scored to tie the game at 1-1 on a goal assisted by Jamie Bird and Nat Fair. Ben McCaffery put the Toros out in front with a nice two-way passing play from Jeff Reynolds and Dylan Welsh. Jamie Bird added to the lead on a nice solo effort, and Dylan Welsh completed the Bowmanvillc scoring in the first period from Jeff Reynolds and Ben McCaffery. The second period belonged to the Toros. Tyson Crocker scored twice with Josh Couture assisting on both goals. Bobby Williams drilled a nice slapshot from the blueline past the Orillia netminder. Jeff Reynolds scored one of his own, assisted by Ryan McMichael. Ryan Petrich finished finished the scoring with a sharp wrist- shot to the short side, assisted by Ryan McMichael and Ben McCaffery. The third period saw Orillia score twice before Tyson Crocker scored his fourth goal of the game, assisted by Jamie Bird and Darryl Steele to complete complete the scoring. Special mention to Jeremy Esselink and Ken King for the fine effort in the game. The team travelled to Aurora on Tuesday night and with Erik Smale in net playing extremely well. The first period ended in a scoreless tie. The first goal came with Bowman- ville a man short. Jeff Reynolds sent Tyson Crocker on a breakaway and he made no mistake, putting the puck between between the Aurora goalie's legs on a nice deke. Jamie Bird made it 2-0 Bowmanvillc on an almost identical scoring play. Tyson Crocker scored his second of the game from Ryan Petrich Petrich and Jeff Reynolds to increase the Toro lead. Late in the third period, Darryl Steele set up Cole Linfoot with some excellent stick handling and a lot of determination and Bowmanvillc ended ended up with a'4-0 victory. Special mention mention goes to Bobby Williams, Josh Couture, Cole Linfoot, Darryl Steele, and Erik Smale for their excellent play. This weekend, the Crow's Sports Toros competed in the Pickering hockey tournament and played the Thornhill Islanders in their first game. Thornhill was up 2-0 before Bow- manville got untracked, with Darryl Checkers Shutout Hooper's Saturday, November 26, saw a rematch rematch between Checkers Variety pec- wees and Hooper's in an excellent game by both teams. The first period saw the teams deadlocked until Checkers winger De- rik Welch broke away and scored, unassisted. unassisted. The second period was scoreless, with tight checking and great goal- tending by both teams. Checkers Variety turned their play up a notch in the third period, with Adam Sarginson scoring early, assisted assisted by Derik Welch and Steve Butter- worth. Checkers defenceman Shawn Watson got an assist with a wristshot from the point which deflected to Geoff Geoff Neuman, who passed to Phil Hopkins, Hopkins, who scored with a flip shot. Ccn- treman Robbie Milford scored Checkers' fourth goal of the game, assisted assisted by John Scholl and Steve But- terworth. The final score was Checkers Variety Variety 4, Hoopers 0, with Robbie Weir earning his third shutout of the year. The Checkers defencemen, Steve Bul- terworth, Shawn Watson, Phil Santos, Zack Fiddis, and Adam Smith played outstanding hockey, keeping Hooper's shots to a minimum. A solid team effort, Checkers. Cole Linfoot scored from Josh Couture and Tyson Crocker to put Bowmanvillc in the lead for the first time in the match. Darryl Steele completed the scoring with his second of the game, assisted by Ryan Petrich and Tyson Crocker in the third period. Final score: Toros 4, Islanders 2. The winning streak came to an end against arch-rivals Pickering when Bowmanvillc came out on the wrong end of a 4-0 score. The Toros finished their busy week by losing a heart breaker to the Newmarket Newmarket Redmen. Newmarket took the early lead and Tyson Crocker answered with a short- handed goal, assisted by Nat Fair. Newmarket regained the lead with a minute left in the first period. The Toros tied the game when Dylan Dylan Welsh scored from Ryan Petrich and Jeff Reynolds. Newmarket scored in the last minute of the second period to go up 3-2. The score remained that way until late in the third when Newmarket Newmarket scored an empty-net goal to complete their 4-2 victory. Congratulations to game MVP Paul Evans for a superb game in net.
