Newcastle Skaters Enter Raccoon Rally The Newcastle Figure Skating Club was quite pleased with the results results posted by the above skaters who competed at the Raccoon Rally held in Bowmanville recently. New Coach Takes Over McPherson Optometrist The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 14,1994 7 McPherson Optometrist atoms managed only three of a possible eight points this past week and a half. The team played four games, three being on the road, and came away with just one win and a tic. There was also a change of coaches last week, with Rich LcFort taking over the helm. On Tuesday, November 29, the boys played in Orillia, losing 3-2. Orillia scored in all three periods and outshot us 2-1. The tandem of Woods and Mallette kept us in the game until we finally managed a goal in the third. Craig Barraball scored midway through the period from Kelly and Mallette. Brett McKee added the last one with the goalie pulled. Assists went to Bonin and Hatfield. The next game took us to Pickering, Pickering, where we lost again. Trailing 2-1 after the first period, we gave up two more in the second and then both teams traded markers in the third for a 5-2 final score. Darren Kelly netted both goals with assists going to McDaniels (2), and Apple- ton. Things did improve somewhat towards towards the weekend, with the team heading for Brooklin to meet the first place Whitby team. The game was, without doubt, our best performance to date, with every boy playing to his fullest capabilities. Whitby scored in each of the first two periods, while Bowmanville nolchal two in the third. The last goal came with 13 seconds remaining in the game for a 2-2 tie. Toro goals were scored by Brett McKee and Garrett Garrett McKnight. Assists went to Campbell Campbell and Bryant. Finally we got a chance to play a home game against Aurora and came away 4-1 winners after firing 40 shots at the opposition netmindcr. Strong Goaltending Beats T-Mac by 6-4 On December 7, T-Mac Insulation oldtimcrs played Bowmanville Kinks and were defeated by a 6-4 score. Although having many scoring opportunities, opportunities, we could not beat the outstanding outstanding goalie that the Kinks had playing for them. Ken Hammond with two, Paul McCluskcy and Tim Fennel handled our scoring. On December 11 we played host to the younger Flying Hot Dogs from Oshawa. This was by far our best contest of the season. Dan Wilcox was at his best for this one, making several key saves to hold the Dogs off the score- sheet all night. John Vcstcrs, Bill Parish, Wayne Bradley, and Ron Parker (with one of the nicest goals of the year) counted for our side.
