A Title for Liberty Mutual The Clarington Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, December 17,1994 9 Liberty Mutual novices played three strong games November 27 in Vaughan to win the Novice 'A' Championship. Game one against Sloney Creek was close. But, thanks to Colin Kranc (one goal), Brad Mcllroy (one goal, one assist), and Kyle Mackenzie (one assist), the final score was 2-1. There was a strong effort by Danny Sullivan and Mark Cryderman. Darren Sloane put in a stellar performance between the pipes, definitely contributing to the win. Brad Mcllroy earned player of the game honors for his outstanding efforts. For game two, our killer bees met the Whitby Wildcats. The teams exchanged goals through three exciting exciting periods to tie 3-3. Justin McKie made countless amazing saves. Drew Petrich and Kevin Heise were in peak form, adding many smart moves to the play. In sudden-death overtime, Doug Myles scored his fourth unassisted goal to put Liberty Mutual ahead 4- 3 and into the 'A' finals. Doug received the award as player of the game. The final game, a real nail-biter, saw the boys face off against another another undefeated team, the Newmarket Newmarket Redmen. Ironmen Ben Hart and Jeff Payne pushed past sickness to give strong performances. Goal-scorers Kyle MacKenzie (hat-trick), and Doug Myles (one goal), brought the third period to an end in yet another tie at 4-4. NHL Goalie Visits Square Boy Practice The Square Boy Pizza minor novice Toros have filled a lull in their schedule by playing a couple of exhibition games, the first against Markham triple 'A'. The Toros had their hands full in their search of the triple 'A' formula to beating one of these teams. Markham Markham led 3-0 after three periods of play, when they put an extra five minutes on the clock and Garrett Nemisz scored one for the Toros. Perhaps that's the secret, to play longer games. The next game was against North Toronto of the MTHL 'AA' loop. This team is becoming quite a familiar familiar opponent, as they are trying very hard to beat the boys and hone their skills while trying. The third game, once again, went to the Toros Goodyear Eagles Inch Closer The countdown has begun to determine determine at which point in the season the Bowmanville Goodyear Eagles can celebrate clinching first place in the Central League standings. With a record of 21-1 heading into weekend play, they could clinch as early as this week. Any combination of Bowmanville Bowmanville wins coupled with Port Perry losses adding, up to six will likely clinch first place for the Eagles. Heading into weekend play, Port Perry sits in second place, 17 points behind Bowmanville. During the Christmas holidays, A Christmas Tradition the Eagles, in co-operation with the Clarington Department of Community Community Services, will be holding a public public skating session. Ron enjoyed the ice time as he waits for the NHL to get back into high gear. All the boys received an autographed autographed picture, and many had hats and sticks signed for the perfect keepsake. The team would like to extend a special thank you to Ron for driving to the arena, in our worst snow storm of the year, and adding to our practice with his expertise of the game. This will be a practice that won't be long forgotten. After it was done, it was hard to tell by all the smiles on the faces who had more fun, the players or Mr. Tugnutt.
