Successful Opening for Older Adult Centre The September Opening of the Tuesday program at the Clarington Older Adult Centre was a great success. success. We arc pleased that there arc now around 250 members. An indication that the program is filling the need is that one of our members calls the Tuesday Program "a blessing". Instead of sitting home alone, there is now a place to go, to make friends, to go out to dinner and to share other activities. Now, that is a success story! That anecdote alone makes it worthwhile for the small group of dedicated volunteers who have been working hard to offer varied programs programs that are interesting, helpful and worthwhile for those attending them. We arc particularly grateful to the Bowmanville Lions Club for the use of the Lions Centre and we offer our heartfelt thanks to them, to the local merchants and to others who have been offering their talents and their experiences to lead the programs and make them interesting. We have certainly certainly been most fortunate to date and would be pleased to hear from 'any one who would' be willing to share his or her interests with the older adults - we need all the help we can get to arrange varied programs. Negotiations arc ongoing regarding regarding the renovations at the former downtown fireball in Bowmanville to provide an interim Centre for Older Adults. We hope that the facility will be available to us in the fall. The Municipality has been most co-operative and the committee is very excited about the future. However, we are positive that those of us who lived through the Great Depression, the Second World War and then the successive ups and downs of the following years will be able to again arise to the needs of the occasion.
