Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 21,1994 17 Central P.S. Students Write Poems About Christmas Dear Editor, Greetings from Mrs. Collins' grade 6 class at Central Public School. We would like to have your permission to publish our Christmas selections in your paper. We would hope to see our selections in your newspaper. On behalf of room 206, Emily Thomas and Amber Ashton Finding The Perfect Tree It must be special, good and green, A Christmas tree is what I mean. Six feet, no ten feet tall! Decorating we'll have such a ball. I found it! I found it! Come here and see, Y es, I think I have found the perfect perfect Christmas tree. There it stood fat and green, Tall and thick, sturdy and lean. We dragged it home and went inside, inside, We had hot cider and crisp apple pie. Then daddy went out and fetched up the tree, It looked warm and ready, just waiting for me. Mum went into the closet, to get all the boxes, Inside we found ornaments and tiny old oxes. We started to work as soon as we could, Putting each ball where we thought we should. And when we were finished we all stood in awe, Me and my family - even grandma! grandma! For something was missing right off the top, We kept thinking and thinking, we just couldn't stop. The star! I shouted, The star is not there, Without it our Christmas tree looks rather bare. Up I went held by sturdy hands, And fastened the star with elastic bands. Our tree is now finished, definitely definitely done, Boy, was that ever fun. And people who come to give Christmas greetings, Look at my tree and think of a meaning. A meaning to last the whole sea-, son through, A meaning that is spread from me to you. Merry Christmas! Justin Dodd Grad 6, Room 206 Central P.S. Christmas Time Christmas is a time to think about those you ' care about. Remember those who are poor and can't afford Christmas. Sometimes, my mom has to remind me that we arc lucky, lucky for everything we have. When I don't eat my bread because because I would rather have the good stuff like cookies, and cake, my grandma tells me how one child in the world would just die for a single piece of bread. Now, I realize why I should cat my bread, and why I should give thanks to everyone, because I have something some kids don't have. I have a Christmas, but most of all I have my family. So, this Christmas, I will pray and give something to the children who can't afford the Christmas which I am fortunate enough to have. By Krystal Barrett Grade 6 Central P.S. Winter White, flaky snow, falling on my nose. Strong, blowing wind, scraping cross my chin. Hard,'frozen ice, slipping is not nice. Green, trimmed tree, for all of us to see.
