( 16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 28,1994 Letter Writor Wânts Fr@@ Vot6 On Federal Government Bills Dear Editor: Tlic Honourable Allan Rock Minister Minister of Justice, has said over and over again the he's confident that the majority of Canadians arc in favour of: 1. Bill C41, a criminal sentencing bill which adds the words "sexual orientation" orientation" in the hate clause of this legislation. Mr. Rock has made it clear, time after time, in the House of Commons that "sexual orientation" refers to gays.and lesbians. 2. Entrenching "sexual orientation" orientation" into Canada's Human Rights Act. 3. Forcing Canadians to register every firearm. If Mr. Rock is so confident that the majority of Canadians arc in favour favour of these three pieces of legislation, legislation, why is he forcing the Liberal Caucus to vote party line? A large segment of Canadian voters arc ask- Needs Help to Find Man with Calico Kitten I am trying to locate the gentleman gentleman who got a little Calico kitten (5 months old, named Molly Magee) from the Vans tone Mill, located at the comer of King and Scugog Streets in Bowmanville, on Monday, December 19.1 would greatly appreciate appreciate him calling me. Many thanks. Dorothy - 697-0888 Concern Over Controversial School Book Continued from Page 4 of the committee.. The remaining members consisted of two school board trustees and a Superintendent of Program. One of the school trustees trustees had already had a conversation with one of the mothers at a candidates candidates meeting. It was stated at this time that the candidate saw nothing wrong with the book. Did even one of the committee have an open mind or was their intent only to defend the system? The entire meeting was merely a formality- in order that the board be able to say that they dealt with the problem according to the proper channels. Parents, if you ever have to fight the system, you are up against an almost impossible task. During the meeting the head of the English department of B.H.S. stated that it was his intent to prepare his students for society by taking this book. Whoever asked teacher to prepare prepare "OUR" children for society? As a parent is that not our job? A great problem arises when the ethics of a parent conflicts with the views of a teacher. I am not knocking teachers. My children have had many wonderful teachers down through the years and I am grateful for every one of them. Parents, I encourage you to read the above mentioned literature for yourself. Then you must decide if you want your hard earned tax dollars dollars putting this book into your child's hand. Let your school trustee know how you feel. Yours respectfully Pamela Judges ing that sexual orientation not be entrenched entrenched into any of our federal laws and that hunters and gun collectors not be forced to register their firearms. firearms. We ask for a free vote by every Member of Parliament, including Ministers. We are asking for a level playing field on sensitive and important important issues that go to the very heart and substance of our values and rights - such as homosexuality and gun control. To ignore the public's right to have M.P.'s represent them in Parliament Parliament can reasonably be described as totalitarianism - i.c. the ramming down the throats of citizens legislation legislation that is deeply offensive to them. Please write Mr. Rock and your M.P., House of Commons, Ottawa, K1A 0A6 and ask for a free vote. No postage necessary. Sincerely, Dave Switzer Frankford, Ontario.
