Christmas Classic The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, January 4,1995 9 Produces Championships for Toros by Brad Kelly The Checkers Variety Christmas Classic hockey tournament came to a conclusion last Friday, with four of eight Bowmanville Toro teams winning the championship in their , respective divisions. The following is a brief summary of the results of each of the eight Toros teams who competed in the annual tournament which operated from December 26-30. Dennis Pizzeria Minor Novice The minor novice Toros won 14 of a possible 15 points during the {: Non-Contact : Atom Hornets t, • ! Reach Finals : At Lindsay Bowmanville Non-Contact Hockey League Atom Hornets participated in the Lindsay Tournament, Dec. 30- Dec. 31, and met Crow's Sports in the "A" final. The Hornets blanked Sutton Canadiens Canadiens 7-0 in an impressive debut. Jeff Ball (2 g - 2 a) Martin Frampton (2g - la), Ian LaFlamme (lg - la), Todd Dechene (lg), Nick Beck (lg, la) scored; Mike Murphy, Kris White and Aaron Cook added assists. Goalies Colin Bourke Lycett and Nathan Stout were full value for the shutout. All the Hornets played a strong two-way game. In game two, Jeff Ball scored six goals and added an assist as the Hornets Hornets sank Lindsay Beaver Lumber by a 9-4 count. Greg Quinlay (lg, 2a), Nick Beck (lg,3a), and Ian LaFlamme (lg) rounded out the goal scoring. Nick Beck, on a pass from Mike Murphy, scored the Hornets' only goal. The Hornets had a fun weekend, playing four good games of hockey in an excellent tournament. Sports Shop Novice Team 1 Wins 'A' Title In Pickering 1 The Bowmanville Sports Shop - novice hockey team won the Pickering Pickering Christmas Hockey Tournament, • outscoring their opposition 37-18. In the first game, the Sports Shop , beat a very good team from Deer Creek 13-12. John Lammcrs had eight goals and one assist, Andrew Mar- quardt had three goals and two assists, Brock Dcighton had one goal and one : assist, P.J. Van Kemp had one goal and one assist, Chris Broome one as- ,■ sist, Dave Lindbcrg one assist, Eric ;> Vcraldi and Billy Knapp had one as- ' sist each to round out the scoring. Timely saves by Ryan Evans and excellent teamwork by the entire team helped the Sports- Shop win their second game. John Lammer, Andrew Marquardt, P.J. Van Kemp, Brock Dcighton, Adam Shctlcr and Philip Osier participated in all the scoring. The semi-final game had the Sports Shop and Boyer facing off, with the Sports Shop prevailing 6-2. Timely saves by Ryan Evans and the scoring punch of John Lammcrs and Andrew Marquardt led to the win. P.J. Van Kemp and Brock Dcighton picked up a couple of assists each. In the championship game, Bowmanville Bowmanville Sports Shop met Hobb, Bak- kcr and Bcrgin. After one period, the score was deadlocked at 1-1, but a strong second and third period resulted resulted in a 9-2 win for the Sports Shop.
