» i t X 1 8 The Clarington Independent, Bowmqnvillc, Saturday, January 7,1995 Carnation Flowers Travel to Peterborough The Carnation Rowers atom house league team participated in a tournament tournament sponsored by the Peterborough St. Paul's Hockey Association on December December 27-28. They arrived for the tournament without their goalie, as Andrew Mill- son was ill. Undaunted by this setback, setback, left winger Dale Hubbs was quickly fitted with the pads and took on the goaltending duties, though he had not played goal before. The first game was against the home team, St. Paul's, who led off the scoring and were up 6-3 at the end of the second period. Carnation Flowers never gave up and battled back with three unanswered goals in the third period to end the game in a 6-6 tie, outshooting the other team 31 to 20. Anthony Weaver had a hat trick and two assists, David Brown had a goal, and Chris Rooney added two goals and an assist. Adam Wilks, Garrett Garrett Dodds, Joey Dawson and Darryl Potter each had assists. Anthony Weaver was named MVP for the game. The next game was against Bewd- lcy and ended 7-3 in Carnation Rowers' Rowers' favour. Both Chris Rooney and Anthony Weaver had hat-tricks, and Adam Wilks scored a goal. Assists went to Dustin Privett, Garrett Dodds, Kevin Ficc, Darryl Potter, and David Brown had two assists. Chris Rooney was recognized as the MVP of the game. The final game for the 'A' Championship Championship was against a Peterborough MHA team. The boys were certainly primed for this game and with Dale still holding down the goalkeeping task, they played superbly. By the end of the second period, Carnation Flowers Flowers was leading 6-0. Peterborough continued to press and scored three goals in the third period. Carnation Flowers added another goal to win the game and the championship with a 7- 3 score. David Brown, Garrett Dodds, and Anthony Weaver each had two goals, and Chris Rooney had a goal. They also each contributed an assist, along with two assists for Derek Richardson, Richardson, and one for Kevin Fice. David Brown was named the game's MVP. Without a doubt, it was ah excellent excellent team effort and the boys' performance performance was exceptional. Dale became more comfortable in net as the games progressed and rose to the occasion. He was assisted with incredible support support from the defensive players Joey Dawson, Darryl Potter, Gavin Campbell, Campbell, Chris Bencteau, and Daniel Reed. Overall, the championship trophy was great to win, but even if they had not brought home the hardware, the team was successful in their fine display display of hockey skills and great team spirit. Remax Peewees Finish as 'B' Champions in Newcastle Despite a cold start to their early morning game, Newcastle house league peewees finished strongly as 'B' Champions. With only a handful of wins to show for the season, our boys in white finally came together as a team. Bowmanville Checkers arrived for a pre-dawn game but had a tough time as our goalie, Gerry Moore, stood firm between the pipes. "He turned Bowmanville away time and time again, only to see his team go down to a defeat of 5-1. Not wanting to finish the day early, our boys played a fast-paced second game against Peterborough Mexicasa and came out on the winning end 5-3. Midway into the first, we scored the first goal of the game. It wasn't until midway into the second that we scored another three. Then, in the third, we sealed the victory with another another one. Our third and final game saw us matched with a tough Ops team. We knew that no matter how many goals we scored, Ops was capable of coming coming back. However, after two goals in the first and two more in the third, Scott Poole reigned supreme in the nets to lead us to a 4-2 victory and the 'B' trophy. We would once again like to thank Dave Brazeau and the Newcastle Minor Minor Hockey Association for an excellent excellent week of tournaments. chowski (4g, 2a); Geoff Roote (la); Craig Reed (9g, la); Stephen Faught (la); Kris Bruynson (3a); Mike Kelly Crow's Sports atoms of the BRHL, participated in the Lindsay Minor Hockey Atom Tournament on December December 30-31.
