For those who line dance at Newcastle United Church Sunday School Hall, registration may be done there on January 12th. New Year's Day Mrs. Kathleen Kathleen Kimball enjoyed dinner with Marguerite and Vance Cooper and family, of Oshawa. Miss Candy Storks, Fort Francis, and Reverend Bonnie Kelly, Keewatin, spent Friday through Tuesday with the Bill Storks family. All enjoyed New Year's dinner at Oshawa Golf and Country Club. Boxing Day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell were daughter Judy and Lynn Pigott, of Oshawa. Marion Fisher, who spent the Christmas Christmas holiday with the Powells, returned home to Belleville on Wednesday. St. George's Church On Sunday, December 31 si, at St. George's Anglican Church the service of Morning Prayer was celebrated. The Reverend Ann Tottenham preached a meaningful sermon which dealt with the less "upbeat" "upbeat" parts of the Christmas story (the slaughter of the innocents). innocents). Dessert is provided. Bernice Terry, a longtime employee of A&P in Bowmanvillc, retired on Saturday, December 30. She worked primarily in the meal department, during just under 33 years with the store. She started her career with A&P in 1963, at which time the supermarket supermarket was located in downtown Bowmanvillc, at the site of the present-day Carter's Bake Shop. The wooden recipe box was one of four prizes in a Community Community Care fund-raising raffle. Other prizes were a sewing basket made by Andy Ticlcmans and a wooden toy box/ bench and wooden blanket box made by Cord Simpson. The bcnch/toy box was also decorated by folk artist Joyce Rousseau. We had our weather very good, no big storm, no ice. Harvey and Lois had Christmas Christmas on the 26th with all the- family here except the Boyds, but we talked to them on the 25th and 26th. More money for Bell. We had dinner and supper supper and presents and some new games. Then on the 27th, we were at Shelly Kossatz for a Yellowlees supper and evening and again lots of food and fun. Thanks Shelley. On Thursday, December 28, many friends gathered at the Knox home for a Knox levee for 1996 put on by the Knox family. The house was packed, we were greeted by the Knox family. Much talking took place and lunch was served to everyone. The year looks very I promising. We can't sec that any tax increase should be in store for us. This coming from the head politicians of the community community of Solina. This is the first levee ever held in the community of Solina. I understand understand that to attend a levee means a great honour. So a big thank you to the Knox family for having the first levee in Solina. Solina. I knew we would get on the map sometime. Very, very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks again. It was so nice to have the Mayor and his wife from Ebenezer with us. Church service this morning, morning, very small crowd .Elaine Baker was our greeter and Doreen Doreen English our lay reader. Sandy Brittain our organist, it was nice to see fourteen in the choir and they sang a lovely choir number. Our stable today showed the three wisemcn coming from the cast. Several lovely hymns were sung, "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", "Go Tell It On The Mountain", "Unto Us A Boy Is Bom", "Angels From The Realm". Reverend Munro had a story and prayer for the children children and Reverend Munro's message "Hope in a Troubled World". In 1996 we hope to have our four stained glass windows on the east side of the church, removed, releaded and remounted remounted in new frames. Sunday, January 7th, 1996 we will be celebrating the "Sacrament of Holy Communion". Communion". Explorers will resume meetings January 9th, 1996 at Eldad Church 6:30 - 8 p.m. El- dad U.C.W. will meet January 8 at 12:30 in the lower hall at the church. Our Annual Congregational Congregational meeting will be February 4 after church. We hope Doreen Westlake will be. up and going again soon. Our card party at Solina Friday, Friday, January 5, 1996 everyone welcome. We had a Pot Luck supper at the church December 31st to usher in the New Year, so I will have to finish my report in 1996. If you can wake up in the morning you arc feeling well!! Well it's 1996. We had our supper at the church and it was a wonderful meal. About 40 sat down for supper. Bruce Taylor asked the blessing. It was nice to have Jean Taylor with us, she had her Cadillac with her. After supper we played games and had two hymn sings. During During the evening several prizes were given out to Harvey Ycl- lowlccs, Jessie Tink, Verna Lavender, Jean Glaspcll, Marg Hall, Harry Knox, Joyce Taylor, Taylor, Betty Chumblcy, Don Taylor, Taylor, Elaine Wotten, Lois Ycl- lowlees. We had lunch again, then formed our circle for "Auld Lang Sync". We ushered in the New Year with our hats and noise makers. Thanks to our committee Wes and Doris Hills, Bruce and Jean Taylor, Lloyd and Marion Broome and Vi Ashton. They will be looking after us again this year. Another New Year's party at the hall. We hope they had a good time. On January 1 the Harvey Yellowlees, the Metcalfs and the Dairs had a skating party at Dennis, Karen and girls' farm in Ncstlclon and they gave us lunch. They go back on Monday, January 8th. The exception is the Hampton Hampton Euchre Card Party. They will meet tonight, Wednesday, January 3rd. Card players meet in the Hampton United Church C.E. Wing at 8 p.m. New players arc always welcome. The Hampton/Eldad Explorers Explorers will meet Tuesday, January January 9th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Eldad United Church. A reminder that the Hampton Hampton Women's Institute will also meet on Tuesday, January 9th. This will be held in the Hampton's Hampton's C.E. Wing at 1:30 p.m. If your like me, you probably probably ate way too much over the holidays. My little one received received new skates for Christmas Christmas so I'll be burning off a few calorics on the local ice rinks. The Hampton Ladies Fitness Fitness Classes are also a good way to work your cardiovascular cardiovascular system. A six week program program will begin on Wednesday, Wednesday, January 10th and run until February 14th. A qualified Y.W.C.A. instructor will work you out in the Hampton C.E.
