It was only due to the superior goaltending of Bud Hooper that Bowmanville won. Bill Dadson scored three times for Bowmanville, while Fred Cowle scored twice. 25 YEARS AGO -- Larry Piper turned in the greatest finish ever recorded in the Men's Major League at Liberty Liberty Bowl. In the final night of the first schedule, he racked up a fantastic 986 triple. That was only two pins off the season high, recorded only a week earlier by John Luff- man. The big 986 triple enabled Larry to capture the high average crown over Don Oke. Crow's Sports Wins 'A' Title The Newcastle Crow's Sports Atoms took part in the annual Christmas tournament at the Newcastle Arena on December December 27. The first game, of the day had the Crow's Sports squad taking on their UCHL league rivals from Bewdley. The first period was scoreless as both teams showed great defensive play in their own ends. Newmarket slipped by in a 1- 0 game which saw defence and Kyle Large play solidly. Arch rivals Whitby Wildcats tore through Darlington arena on November 22 and left with a 7- 1 win. But Destinations To Go met the Wildcats two days later at the Whitby Tournament, hoping hoping to even the score. They held Whitby to a . 3-3 tie on goals by Darryl Steele from Large, and tight defensive work by Nat Fair, Darryl Steele, Ryan Pétrich, Justin Osborne Osborne and Bobby Williams gave the offense a chance to strut their stuff. Destinations To Go struck early and often when Jeff Wrightly connected on a pass from Ryan McMichael. McMichael. Last game of the tournament pitted Destinations To Go against Hillcrcsl, but the Toros couldn't keep them off the board, and all the scoring in the third left the Minor Pee- wees with a 4-1 loss. The Toros travelled to Peterborough Peterborough and left the Nationals with a 4-4 tie on goals by Dylan Dylan Welsh from Tyson Crocker, Crocker, Jeff Wrightly (unassisted), Bobby Williams from Ryan McMichael, and again Dylan Welsh from Jordan Foley. Destinations To Go rounded out the month in a snowstorm in Barrie, but came home cold after a 5-2 loss. Points came from Ryan McMichael, Tyson Crocker, Martin Framplon, and Darryl Steele. Barrie came to Clarington on December 5 looking to take one from the Toros, but they forgot to tell Nathan Stout and the rest of the team. The large crowd was treated to a great hockey game between these two teams as each team was determined to take home the championship hardware. The first goal of the game did not come until the middle of the second period when Ryan Sutton scored on a Newcastle power play with Kyle Searle and Tanner Mill- son assisting. The lead would not last long as James Harris would take the faceoff at center center ice for the Pizza Pizza squad and fire a long shot from outside the blue line that fooled the Newcastle goalie to tie the score. The rest of the game saw some great action and plenty of scoring chances, but both goalies were outstanding, outstanding, making several tough saves. It looked like the game was headed for overtime, but Newcastle showed some great forechecking, and with the pressure on in the Bowmanville Bowmanville end, Tanner Millson jumped on a loose puck in the slot and fired a shot at the Bowmanville net which eluded' the Bowmanville goalie.
