Letter to The Editor Retirement Of Sweaters Is Questioned Dear Editor For a long time wc have been deeply concerned and bothered by the retirement of two sweaters sweaters which were worn in the now defunct Junior C hockey league. Our son, Jerry Johnston, wore sweater number 12 for his entire entire hockey career, including four years with the Bowmanvillc Bowmanvillc Jr. C Eagles, and Mr. Gary Ncmisz wore sweater number 16. There was never a more well- known hockey player on the Bowmanvillc Eagles than Jerry Johnston. It didn't matter whether you liked him or not, what you received when you went to the arena was exciting, fast-paced and tough hockey. There is no doubt that Shane Armstrong (the young man who took on Jerry's number), was a good hockey player, and wc arc not disputing that. However, However, when one thinks of number number 12, one automatically thinks of Jerry Johnston. Wc would like Mr. Laing to explain his reasons for choosing choosing these two particular numbers numbers for retirement. Our concent now is that wc have two grandsons who arc currently active in the hockey league, and we would love for them to have the opportunity to wear their uncle's number 12 sweater. There are very few achievements achievements in one's lifetime that touch so many people, and when we Itxtk back on Jerry's accomplishments with the Bowmanvillc Eagles, we are saddened by the unfair lack of recognition he has received by the hockey organization. Jerry contributed greatly and played a key role in the first- ever Bowmanvillc Eagles Jr. C All-Ontario Championship. For a hockey player of this calibre, calibre, does he not deserve a little little belter Ilian this?
