Their first game against Ajax resulted in a Harvey's romp of 11-1. The hard-skating Harvey's squad was more than ' Ajax could handle as everyone showed up to play. Nick Smith had five goals and two assists to lead the attack, with Kyle Welsh adding two goals and two assists, Mark Tamblyn - with two goals, and Brent Tan- sley adding the other. The other other assists went to Mike Wood, Ryan Ormiston, Jesse Cole and Greg Bell. Their second game of the round robin placed them against Duffs Towing of Whitby. Whitby. Mark Tamblyn put Harvey's up 1-0 with two minutes left in the first period, assisted by Nick Smith. The second period was a fast-paced, close- checking game resulting in chances at both ends. Nick Smith gave Harvey's a two- goal advantage at 3:10 of the period, which would prove to be the winner, assisted by Andrew Warren and Kyle Welsh. With 38 seconds seconds left in the period, Whitby scored to cut the lead in half. The third period was as exciting exciting as the first two and resulted in numerous opportunities. Harvey's put the icing on the cake at 7:38 of the period on a goal by Ryan Ormiston, assisted assisted by Mike Wood and Nick Smith. This 3-1 victory earned Harvey's the divisional championship championship and a berth in the semi-final round. Harvey's were the only one of three Bowmanville teams to advance. advance. On Friday they took to the ice against Whitby Optimists in. an action-packed, fast- paced game. Whitby scored first, but with 47 seconds on the clock, Ryan Ormiston scored from Mike Wood and Nick Smith to tie it at 1-1. Whitby took the lead halfway through the second and on the strength of their goaltending, looked like they would shut down the offence of Harvey's. But at 3:18, Nick Smith found the net and tied the game at 2- 2. It appeared there would be sudden death overtime, but with nine seconds on the clock, Whitby scored to squeak out a 3-2 decision and advance to the finals. The Harvey's team from Bowmanville has nothing to hang their head about as they played their hearts out for three days and lost a very tough battle battle to a very good team. The coaches were proud of the way they played and the parents should be too. The defensive corps of Kyle Welsh, Andrew Warren, Jesse Cole and Tom Tester played some of their best hockey thus far and the goaltending of Mike Shrives was excellent. It held Harvey's in all through the tournament. The forwards all skated hard and gave it their all. Kyle Welsh and Nick Smith both earned MVP awards twice. Keep up the excellent play, boys, and a tournament win will come your way. On Saturday, Dec. 23, Harvey's Harvey's Peewees of the CRHL took to the ice to close out 1995 against Aamco. What was anticipated to be a close game turned out to be an easy victory for the Harvey's squad. Harvey's wasted no time getting things started with a goal at the 40 second mark by Ryan Ormiston assisted by Nick Smith and Brent Tansley. The players never let up from that point on and continued the onslaught by scoring four more times in the first period, twice in the second and twice more in the third. Goal scorers for Harvey's were Kyle Welsh and Nick Smith (both with hat- tricks) and Matt Brown and Jonathan Hostick with single markers. The assists went to Nick Smith, Brent Tansley, Jesse Cole, Ryan Hill,. Tyler Mitchell and Kyle Welsh. The final score was Harvey's 9 and Aamco 1.
