11\ 10 The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, April 13,1996 Courtice Students Build Nesting Stations The Grade 10 students of Courtice Secondary Schools' shop program ventured into unchartered territory with the Grade 5 students of Courtice North Public School to build 15 bird nesting stations for the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station's portion of the Waterfront Trail. Bruce Baldson's (C.S.S.) and Pina Brennan's (C.N.P.S.) students students gathered together on Friday, March 29 to put up the stations through the station's "Feather Stations by Friends" program. The students built nesting boxes for Blue Birds, Wood Ducks and Purple Martins. Juried Photography Show Calling all photographers! The Visual Arts Centre's annual annual juried photography show attracts everyone from newcomers newcomers to photography, to seasoned seasoned artists. Entry forms are now available available by calling 623-5831. Awards will be given for Best in Show, First Place Black and White and First Place Colour Photography, as well as additional additional awards based on merit. The Juror is Simon Glass, whose work has been exhibited across Canada. He has taught photography and is a founding member of Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography and a recipient of awards from the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Canada Council. Entry deadline is Thursday, May 9, with forms in by May 2. Entries may be delivered to the VAC during office hours. Worthy Grand Matron of Ontario, Sister Audrey Martin; a Grand Trustee Ken Sumcrsford, District Deputy Grand Matron, Jacqueline Guthrie, Past District Deputy Grand Matrons, Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons, Grand Representatives, Past Matrons and Past Patrons, Associate Matrons, Associate Patrons, guests and Durham's own members. Sister Katie and Brother Wayne Martin welcomed each group individually and reminded reminded them that they were a spring garden of flowers and each member a chosen flower, which she named as they were being introduced. Business followed the welcome welcome and introduction. The Worthy Grand Patron spoke on the warmth he felt as he entered the Chapter Room and how he was made welcome by the members. He also mentioned mentioned how lucky Durham Chapter was to have a Worthy Grant Matron, Sister Audrey Martin, such a gracious lady and one to be proud of. Sister Jàckie Guthrie spoke on the season of Lent and read a small poem. The farewell was given by Sister Marjory Snoddy. The silver drill and closing drill was done by the officers. They then retired to the downstairs banquet hall where .a lovely lunch was served by Sister Jean Sumersford and her committee. -- Kay Pring. exhibit by the Millbrook Gallery and much, much more. There will be loads of fun for the whole family as they tour the sugar bush, pull maple taffy or take a ride on a horse- drawn wagon, all to the strains of old time fiddle music. These activities take place in the Village of Millbrook, Kennedy's Sugarbush and the Lions Den of Peterborough County Road 10. A free shuttle bus will provide transportation from one site to another, if desired. The festivities run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13th and 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14th.
