Skilled Trades Hockey Tournament will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. This tournament tournament is a charity event held in memory of Larry Bews, an electrician fatally injured in an industrial accident at General Motors. The final series was set to begin April 4, against Barrie, to determine who will be crowned league champs. The series against Whitby brought together two teams that had previously met in the OMHA playoff round. Whitby had prevailed in that series and the Toros had a score to settle. Game one was played March 21 in Brooklin. Unlike the previous tight and exciting contests between these two teams, this game saw the Toros prevail 12-3. Brad Farrow led the scoring for the Toros with three goals and three assists. Also contributing contributing with goals were David Perron (3), Jordan Gross (2), and singles to Alex Henderson, Tyler Beers, Tyler Ferguson and Brett Barraball. Game two of the series was played at the Darlington Sports Complex March 23. The Dennis Pizzeria Toros opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Corey Bradbum, assisted by Alex Henderson. Whitby responded responded with a goal near the end of the first to tie the game going into the second. Whitby carried carried its momentum into the second and scored early in the period to take the lead. However, the lead lasted less than 30 seconds as Jordan Gross potted one for the hosts, with assists from Brad Farrow and David Perron. Whitby regained the lead early in the third period, only to see the lead slip away for the second time on a Toro goal by Tyler Ferguson, assisted by Gross and Farrow. Undaunted, the Whitby team forged ahead for the third time with just six minutes left in the period. And while it looked like this lead would stick for the period, a last minute effort by the Toros produced a goal by Henderson, assisted by Derek McCron and Ian Garrison, and the game ended in a 4-4 tie. Game three was played at Darlington the next day and represented the game that would decide the outcome of the series. The Toros came charging out of the gates with two goals in the first period.
