SENIOR BASEBALL -- The Kendal Eagles senior men's baseball team will begin preparations for the upcoming season when they open training camp on Sunday, April 21, followed by another practice on Sunday, April 28. Both workouts will get underway at 10:00 a.m. at Harvey Jackson Memorial Park in Kendal. Following those two initial Sunday practices, the team will then switch to Wednesday as their regular night. Anyone requiring more information about the team or the league can contact Mike Robinson at 786-2106, or Rob Terry at 623-1330. STRONG SHOWING -- International gymnast Stephanie Cappuccitti, of Courtice, represented the Gemini Gymnastics Club of Oshawa at the Bluewater International Invitational Meet that was held in Sarnia from March 29-31. There were a number of countries represented at the meet, including Canada, Australia, France, Mexico, Ukraine, and the USA. Stephanie placed second on bars, second on beam, and sixth overall in Level 10. ALL-STAR HOOP- STERS ~ Some of the best high school basketball players players in the Durham Region, including a number from area high schools, participated in the 1996 LOSS A senior boys' and girls' all-star game on April 9 at Durham College. Included on the girls' roster were Sommer West of BHS, and Trudy Bennett of CSS. On the boys' team were Tom Cookson of BHS (who was named the MVP), and Ken Massiah of CSS. Also of note, Garvin Ambrose, formerly of Courtice Secondary School, won the Slam Dunk competition, competition, and will be off on a trip for two to Chicago to see a Bulls game. Over 1,000 fans were in attendance. AWARD WINNER - Congratulations are extended to the Canadian Tire Corporation, who were awarded awarded a 1996 Sport Corporation recognition Award by the Canadian Sport Council at the 23rd annual Canadian Sports Awards Dinner. Some of the recreational programs sponsored sponsored by Canadian Tire include: the Team Canadian Tire Sports Caravan, the Team Canadian Tire uniform program, program, Streetball 3 on 3 basketball basketball tournaments, as well as sponsorship of the Team Canadian Tire provincial hockey hockey finals. 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL - Everything is starting to come together for the Fifth Annual Canadian Statesman 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 18 who would like to register register should clip out the registration registration form included in today's edition, and send it to our office as soon as possible. We have already received a couple of forms from teams who have guaranteed themselves a spot. The dates of this year's tournament tournament is Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. This was Newcastle Square Boys' final tournament of the hockey season, participating in the C.R.H.L. Select Tournament in Bowmanviile on Easter Weekend. In our first game. Newcastle faced Kingston. Square Boys played sluggishly in the first and second period, but the boys came on strong in the third to come away with a 4-3 win. Scoring for Square Boys were Matt McGlynn (lg), Mark Brennan (lg), Robbie Thompson (lg), Nick Stacey (lg, 2a), Matt Zawislak (la), and Matt O'Halloran (la). Newcastle faced Port Hope in the second game early Saturday morning. The Port Hope team was no match for Square Boys as we won 11-0.
