April 17. 1996 15 School Spirit Alive and Well at St. Stephen's Spring has brought a new, busy atmosphere to St. Stephen's High School. The spirit at school lately has been tremendous. A new shelter for young people located in Oshawa is scheduled to open at the end of April. This shelter is called The Ark. At the Easter Liturgy, the student body was challenged to bring in any extra clothes from home that weren't being used. The students and staff were enthusiastic about this project and the response was spectacular. spectacular. We even tied string around our fingers so that we would remember. It worked! In fact, the shelter received more clothes from us than they ever expected. The much anticipated Free Mega Milk Energy Dance put on by Much Music has come and gone. It was a huge success and it seemed that everyone had a joyous time. Way to go, St. Stephen's. You deserve it! New activities such as the upcoming Euchre Tournament have gotten underway, with the first games held last Monday. Rumour has it that Alison Lywak and Becky Bester have a veiy good chance of winning. By Betty Wright Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Piggott held a family gathering on Easter Sunday for supper. Edgar, Annie and Betty Wright attended a surprise 30th wedding anniversary party for Doris and Murray Axford on Friday evening at the home of Ron and Carrol Clemens and Brooke, Hampton. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lowery, Beaverton, were Friday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Howe. Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Todd Stephens on the birth of their bundle of blue, a baby brother for Kellee and Lynsee. This week's visitors with Mrs. Len Stainton were Linda Cryderman, Bowmanville, Mr. David Stainton, Cobourg and Mrs. Roy Hope, Prince Albert. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bradley, Bowmanville, were recent visitors of Gordon Stevens and Clara Page. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Jackson, Brooklin, were Sunday afternoon afternoon visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wright and Betty. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Piggott were visitors of Mi; and Mrs. Clayton Read, Orono, and later attended a production by the Bowmanville Drama Workshop at the Flying Dutchman on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Todd Milford and Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Stainton, Cassandra and Curtis, Miss Elva Orchard were Friday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stainton celebrating celebrating Brenda's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Terrill, Orono, Mr. and Mrs. A. Hollingsworth, Bethany, Mrs. J. Collacott, Bowmanville, were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Wally Griffin. The junior and senior girls' soccer teams have been working working hard to prepare themselves for their first game next week. The conditioning program has worked wonders as the girls have improved immensely in just a couple of practises. Spirit Week took place last week. Tuesday was declared 50's days, with the main event being a hula hoop contest, Martin Geary was declared the Hula King. Wednesday was 60's day. The best-dressed hippie was Shaina Johann. Thursday was 70's day, with everyone wearing wearing the best bellbottoms and platform shoes. There was a disco contest at lunch and the winner was...Kris Donoghue. Friday was 80's day or punk day. Everyone wore ripped jeans and spiked their hair. There was a bubble gum blowing blowing contest at lunch in which Lyndsee MacDonald won. On the cultural front. St. Stephen's is hosting a group of French students from Ni mes who are visiting Canada for about two weeks. Volunteers from St. Stephen's are opening up their homes and lives to these students from France. The visiting students have a fun-filled couple of weeks planned, with mini trips to Ottawa. Niagara Falls, and Toronto. They also ha m awe some time at the Mucn Musi. Dance. The students of S Stephen's have a lot of events and activities coming up.
