McLaughlin, hosts its "Celebration of Summer" auction of new and gently used items on June 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As well, there will be a large selection of flowering hanging baskets, annual bedding plants and locally-grown perennials to be sold. Then, on Sunday June 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Parkwood hosts its first antique and classic car show. Admission and proceeds from both days go to the Parkwood Estate refurbishing fund. REHOBOTH OPEN HOUSE -- Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church invites the community to an Open House of its newly-renovated and expanded facilities on Saturday, June 1. Everyone is welcome to tour the new fellowship hall, nursery nursery and classrooms, and 700 seat sanctuary between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The ribbon-cutting is at 3 p.m. A special dedication service will be held on Sunday June 2, at 10 a.m. AUCTION AT ST. SAVIOUR'S -- St. Saviour's Anglican Church at 23 Mill St. in Orono holds an auction and bake sale on Saturday, June 1st. Frank Stapleton will be the auctioneer. STORYTELLING FESTIVAL -- The Durham Folklore Society presents its sixth annual evening of adult storytelling on Saturday, June 1 at 8 p.m. at the Arts Resource Centre, behind the Oshawa City Hall. Storytellers will entertain and educate using this ancient means of passing on culture. The StoryFest '96 event begins a series of public performances spread across Durham. Ceremonies include the dedication of the Colville Memorial clock tower in memory of the Colville •brothers of Bowmanville: William, Alexander, and John, who died during the Second World War while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a prelude to the ceremonies, the Clarington Concert Band will provide entertainment beginning at 1:30 p.m., at 1:45 p.m. the Royal Canadian Legion (branch 178) will march from the cenotaph to Rotary Park. The official ceremonies get under way at 2:00 p.m. at the park with the dedication of the clock tower and memorial plaque unveiling to follow. FIRE HALL OPEN HOUSE -- Hot dogs will be served at the Enniskillen Fire Station #5 Open House to be held Sunday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come out and meet the firefighters firefighters and see the equipment they use to fight fires. OLDER ADULT PROGRAM - The Clarington Older Adult Program for independent adults held on Tuesday, June 4, will include the ever-popular Stitching and Talking session at 10:15 a.m. Cards are also offered. At one p.m., members are invited to meet at the Lions Centre for a tour of the Bowmanville Museum. A highlight will be a review of some mystery photographs in the hope that some may be identified. IN THE WEEKS AHEAD YARD SALE TO HELP ANIMALS -- The Clarington Pet Connection is holding a yard sale fund-raiser on Saturday, June 8th from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to be held at 69 Hobbs Drive in Bowmanville. There will be a kid's fish pond, face-painting and a barbecue: All proceeds go to help homeless animals. Anyone wishing to donate saleable items to the yard sale is asked to call Brenda at 623-6631. YARD WORK FOR SENIORS -- EDS of Canada employees employees in conjunction with their Global Volunteer Day will provide provide free yard work for seniors on Saturday, June 8lh. Teams of up to four people will cut grass, clean windows, garages, eavestroughs and perform general garden clean up and planting planting for seniors and clients of Community Care. Visual Art's Centre Receives Grant Eight to ten Clarington residents will be learning how to mount art exhibitions, thanks to a recent grant from the Province of Ontario. A cheque for $5,460 to assist with the Visual Arts Centre's upcoming Curatorial Mentoring Project was presented to VAC Administrator Margaret Rodgers last week. Durham East MPP John O'Toole delivered the cheque at his constituency office in Bowmanville. The project will include the hiring of a curator to conduct workshops on this topic. The Visual Arts Centre hopes the training will create a pool of people people with expertise in planning and implementing all of the facets of an exhibition.
