Those four eventually caught up to Powers and Crowther, with Donaldson emerging as the big winner, coming out in second spot and setting out after the leader. Donaldson took the lead just prior to the halfway mark, with Coppins moving into second spot, and Crowther then crowding crowding the Travis/Smith machine for third. Coppins was then able to close the gap between himself and Donaldson slightly, with the two of them having an entire straightaway lead over the third place machine of Ken Perrier at the drop of the checkered checkered flag. Taking fourth spot was Crowther, with Vic Mannette rounding out the top five. Taking wins in the heat races were Donaldson with two, and Mannette and Coppins with one each. After a confrontation in the pits the previous week, fans thought they might be treated to some real bumping and banging banging should Jeff Hanley and Joe Sefc get even remotely close to each other on the track. While polesitter Rick Brown (#44 WalMart/Prestone Chevrolet Lumina) led the first three laps, Sefc moved by to take a lead he would never relinquish. Gary Mead (#88 Cairngorm Ropes Ford Thunderbird) and Jeff Hanley (#70 Jeff . Hanley Mo tors port s/Cunningham Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo) were also able to get by. Hanley was able to duck underneath Mead shortly thereafter, thereafter, and then set out after Sefc, eventually pulling up right to his rear bumper. With Sefc and Hanley pulling away from the rest of the pack, Mead, Brad Corcoran (#50 Slick 50) and Rino Montanari (#89 Markham Driveline) were fighting tooth- and-nail for third, fourth and fifth. While Sefc and Hanley held the top two positions, and Mead, Corcoran and Montanari ran together for third, fourth and fifth, Hanley almost saw his race come to a premature halt as he had to brake hard exiting turn four, as the car of Lee slowed in the corner. Hanley, still behind Sefc, didn't see Lee until Sefc dove to the inside of the slower car. Following the re-start, Hanley took a peek to the outside outside of Sefc, but couldn't get by. Meanwhile, Corcoran was looking inside Mead down the front stretch with just four laps remaining, but he couldn't make the pass. Two laps later, Corcoran again looked inside Mead, but again with the same result. After a late race caution, Hanley looked to the outside and then darted inside Sefc, but couldn't take the top spot away. Sefc took the checkered flag, followed by Hanley, Corcoran, Mead and Mike Horton. Taking the heat wins in the late Model Sportsman division were Kevin O'Hara with two, and Sefc and Horton with one each. With a solid pitching performance performance from Adam Niejadlik over four innings, Aerdon beat the Orono team 15-9. With the game tied 3-3, going into the fourth inning, the bats came alive for Aerdon. With a double from both Chris Mackenzie and Jesse Haig, by the time the dust had settled, Aerdon had six hits and scored nine runs to take a commanding 12-3 lead. With three more runs added in the fifth, the offence took a rest. Then, Jarred Shaw came in to pitch the fifth and sixth innings, he got into a little jam in the top of the sixth and allowed four runs before striking out two and getting one to fly out. A nice show in this game was watching Chris Mackenzie go 4 for 4, with three doubles and two R.B.I.s. and two stolen bases. Jesse Haig went 4 for 5 with a double double and three R.B.I.s. There were some nice throws from Sean Grondin at third to make from mosquito and filling out some nice outs at first. our roster.
