They were crowned the 1996 LOSSA senior girls' soccer gold medalists last' Wednesday, May 29, at the Ritson Fields (north of Taunton Rd. in Oshawa). Durham Christian played Pereyma in the semi-finals. They beat them 1-0 in a shootout and also defeated Port Perry 4-0 to win the LOSSA championship. Durham Christian Head Coach Bernice Smink was happy and excited about winning winning the gold medal and how the team performed. "We played really well. OTHER STUFF -- The Oshawa Generals opted for a couple of bantam-aged players with their first two selections in Saturday's Priority Selection Draft in Kitchener. The Generals selected Bryan Allen of the Ernestown Jr. C hockey hockey club with their ninth selection in the first round. In the second round, they picked Brent Gauvreau of the Sudbury Midgets. Interestingly, they picked two players from the Central Jr. C League. Mark Cairns, a goaltender with the Little Britain Merchants, was taken in the sixth round, while defenceman Rob Cox of the Uxbridge Bruins was an eighth round pick.
