The banquet was on Saturday, June 1, at St. Joseph's Church in Bowmanville. The team handed out nine pieces of hardware to its players. players. Two players took home two trophies. The winners of the awards are as follows: President's Trophy (leading (leading scorer) -- Chad Taylor Haynes Trophy (rookie of year) -- Joey Walters Goodyear Trophy, (most valuable defenceman) -- Mike Davies Bob Beers Memorial (most improved) -- Matt Armstrong Pat Marshall Memorial Trophy (fans' favourite Eagle) -- Chad Taylor Gibbs Trophy (dedication and sportsmanship) -- Joey Walters Puk Trophy (most gentlemanly gentlemanly player) -- Paul Lang Devitt Trophy (loyalty and leadership) -- Scott Imrie Eagles General Manager Mike Laing, and the rest of his staff, have been busy putting together a team that can take a run at the league title next season. Laing has hired Mike Gordon as head scout, and signed co-coaches Kevin McClelland and Jim Jackson, and assistant coach Curtis Hodgins to new, three-year contracts. Laing has vowed that the Eagles will be taking a long, hard look at a couple of Bowmanville products who were members of the Central Ontario Wolves Bantams last year. Both Chris Pot and Jason Lang have, "an excellent excellent chance of making the hockey club," Laing said. Co-coach McClelland said the fans should enjoy this year's edition of the Eagles. "We'll have a good team this year. We play the season for the playoffs and Mike (Laing) said he's building a team to make a run (at a league title)," he said. Laing, McClelland and the rest of the Eagles brass will be back at work later this month. DRAW WINNER -- The winner of the raffle conducted by the Bowmanville Eagles is Mike Pidgeon, of Glencastle St., in Oshawa. His name was selected at the year-end banquet on Saturday night. SOCCER FESTIVAL -- Those who have participated in any way in the Darlington Men's Soccer League over the past 100- plus years, may want to venture out to the Tyrone Community Centre on the weekend of June 22-23. The' Darlington Soccer Festival will highlight the league's rich history, including some exhibition games. The weekend will also include a dance on Saturday evening.
