Highlights from Annual Worry Family Picnic The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, August 10, 1996 19 The 123rd Annual Worry Family Picnic was held on Sunday, July 21, 1996 at the Blackstock Recreation Centre in beautiful Blackstock Ontario. Ontario. This year, only 54 descendants descendants of John and Ann Werry were in attendance, which is down from last year's attendance of 74 family members. members. After the registration was completed, President Gary Hancwich welcomed everyone to the 123rd Werry Picnic and then asked Glenn Larmer to lead us in grace. Following the singing of our traditional grace, "Be Present at out Table Lord", a delicious hot and cold buffet style luncheon, topped off with terrific desserts was enjoyed by everyone present. The luncheon was followed by a brief business meeting chaired by president Gary Hanewich. Several issues were discussed, including the 125th Werry Picnic coming up in 1998. A committee led by David David Werry is in place to plan the 125th Picnic Celebration. The executive for the 1997 Wcriy Family picnic will be as follows: President: Gary Hanewich; Hanewich; Vice-President: David Werry; Secretary: Ralph Wer- ry; Treasurer: Marion Starko- ski; Sports: Grant and Eleanor Worry; Registration: Norma Orminston; Genealogy: Marguerite Marguerite Wright; Historians; Marion and Glenn Larmer. Following the close of the business meeting the Sports Committee, John and Kristen Werry, conducted a wide range of interesting contests and games, including a bubblegum blowing contest and hula-hoop spinning competition. Some of the contest winners were: youngest boy present - Peter Godbcr; youngest girl present- Georgia Godber; oldest boy present - Edgar Wright (83); oldest girl present - Elva Orchard Orchard (94); family members travelling the farthest distance - Grant and Eleanor Weny; most great-grandchildren - Alberta Alberta Worry; person who hasn't mowed their grass in the longest time - Grant Weny; and best fish story - Grant Werry. Several family members members then moved outside for the sport events such as the three legged race, wheelbarrow race, walking races, running races and the best soccer player competition. The afternoon concluded with several family-members visiting and sharing memories from the past while looking over the wonderful display of historical items set up by Historians Historians Marion and Glenn Larmer.
