IM Dave Lee Wins First Feature Victory of Season at Mosport After a season full of frustration, frustration, Dave Lee .put everything everything together and captured his first feature win of the season in the Street Stock division. In doing so, he put to rest a six- feature-wins-in-a-row streak by Oshawa's Derek Henderson. Henderson. It was Schomberg's Owen Smith (#40 L.C. Chalks Bar and Grill) who took the lead at the start of the race. Whitby's Sean English (#55) then ducked to the inside of Smith, but was unable to complete the pass. Henderson (#71 Carriage Collision/Toronto Sun), who started the twenty-lap event from the seventh position, was slowed by lapped traffic and dropped back to ninth place. Lee (#09 Blackstock Hard- ware/Woodtech) of Nestleton, then grabbed the lead from Smith, while two-time Street Stock champion Andy Warbut- ton (#24) moved up to the fourth position. Warbutton then drove under Joe Bevacqua (#27) to take third place, pulling Glen Pricker Pricker (#18 Red Stallion) right along with him. All this fighting for position was allowing Lee to stretch his lead, as Henderson had moved up to the sixth spot, getting by Bevacqua, while Warbutton moved into second spot. Again, Pricker followed War- button, and moved into third place. Lee crossed the finish line in top spot, followed by War- button, Pricker, Henderson and Knab. Street Stock heat winners winners were Henderson and Pricker. . Question: Telma, my baby is colicky and doesn't suck very well. How can physiotherapy help? Colic, along with wryneck (torticollis), earaches, poor sucking and swallowing are common and often related problems of infancy and childhood. Because these conditions have many causes, it is important to consult your family family doctor first. One factor of these problems problems I commonly see in clinic clinic is the compression of one or more of three cranial nerves: the Glosso pharyngeal, the Vagus and the Accessory Nerves. These three nerves all exit the base of the skull through paired openings called the Jugular Foramen. The Jugular Foramen are located on either side of the skull between between the back of the head and behind the ears. As the baby passes through the birth canal, these nerves are, subject to being pinched. The Glosso-Pharyngeal nerve is involved with sucking and swallowing. When it is pinched, the baby may have a reduced sucking reflex and trouble taking the milk. The Vagus Nerve (from the Latin "the wanderer") is the longest cranial nerve and has many branches responsible responsible for a number of different functions in the body. The auricular branch of the Vagus Nerve supplies the ear, and another, the abdomi nal branch supplies the digestive digestive tract. When the Vagus Nerve is pinched, the result can be earaches and colic. The third nerve, the Accessory Nerve supplies the two major neck muscles the Trapezius and the Sternocleidomastoid. Pinching of the Accessory Nerve can result in torticollis or wryneck. The purpose of physiotherapy physiotherapy is to reduce the pinching of these nerves. Your physiotherapist is trained to evaluate the symptoms symptoms and look for their causes. causes. In these cases, as the cause is often a pinched nerve, a thorough knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the head and neck is essential to the treatment. This treatment is very gentle and comfortable for the baby. Although it is never too late to start treatment, ideally treatment should be started as soon as possible. In my own practice, I treat babies routinely as young as a week old. A reminder: Any one can claim to provide "physiotherapy". "physiotherapy".
