8 The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, August 24,1996 Reactors Runners-up in Vaughan Tournament by Stephanie Morgan The Darlington Reactors were prevented from competing competing in the semi finals even though their wins outnumbered their loses in the first half of the Robbie tournament in Ajax on June 30. The Reactors' first opponents opponents June 29th were Scarboro United who defeated the Reactors Reactors by a score of 3-2. Emily' Muir scored both goals. Remaining Remaining strong in game two of the day, Muir scored all four of the Reactors' winning goals against Halifax. The third and final game, the Reactors participated in during the Robbie tournament ended with a score of 1-0 due to Muir's continuous success. Pittsburg U.S.A. were the final opponents faced by the Reactors Reactors in a disappointing, but hard-fought tournament. The Vaughan tournament July 13-14 proved to the better of the two for the Reactors, who placed runner-up in the semifinals. Emily Muir and Jennie De- Haas scored the first two goals of the day, defeating Brampton 2-0. Christie Stevens contributed contributed to this score by assisting Muir. The Reactors advanced to the semi finals by winning game two by default. With no breaks going our way, we left with a 15-5 loss. After recuperating from this loss, we went to face Tim's Fifth Wheel on Wednesday. This game featured an offensive offensive battle that went back and forth. Both teams played good, but it was Aerdon who won in the end 17-13. Aerdon's offense offense was led by Jared Shaw who went 2 for 2. with 3 R.R.L's. Also hot at the plate Was Tyler Baker who went 2 for 3, Jesse Haig going 1 for 1 with 2 walks, and Shawn Snider Snider going 1 for 1 with 2 walks and 1 hit by pitch. Joel Hopkins Hopkins also walked in his four times at bat,. Adam Mejadlik helped the cause by coming, in and pitching two innings, completely completely shutting down Tim's in the last inning to get the win. Then on Friday we went into Tyrone to have a game that is to be our; last of 1996. With no luck going our way again we lost 20-4 to Tyrone, but had a lot of fun anyhow.
