Silent Art Auction at Orono Fair It might be the only quiet thing taking place at this year's Durham Central Fair in Orono -- a silent art auction. auction. Eight to 10 original paintings paintings by Newcastle equine artist artist Janet Griffin Scott will be on display at the fair office. "There will be some equine, wildlife and maybe some pet art," Griffin-Scott said recently. Once the original paintings paintings are sold, the fair society will receive a 25 per cent donation donation from the artist. Griffin-Scott said, "this auction is based on an idea from the Royal Winter Fair when they had a fundraiser art show." This will be a solo exhibit for Griffin-Scott, who works from her home's basement. ' "I will have my own display display boards and there will be bidding sheets where people can put down their bids," she explained. She noted that on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8, the highest bidders will receive their paintings. Normally, her art fetches prices ranging from $20 to Annual Art Mart Organizers of the annual Art Mart at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery are urging artists and artisans to submit their entries for this year's show by mid-September. Held November 2 and 3, this year's show celebrates the 25th anniversary of Art Mart. As always, the emphasis for the juried show is on quality, says Ann Galbraith, president of the Gallery's Volunteer Committee. Exhibitor applications can be obtained by calling the McLaughlin Gallery at 576- 3000. $750, depending on the size While she's not sure what type of event where people of the work and whether or types of bids will come for- can get originals for good not it is framed. ward, she noted, "this is the prices." * Theatre Dance * ★ * Academy * ★ k Tap k Ballet k jazz k Hip Hop k Theatre Dance Ages 3 and up Beginners to Professionals • Teen and Adult Classes Available • Good Rates on Recital Costumes Recreational and Competitive Levels Fully Accredited Professional Dance Teachers (our teachers have performed and studied at the Russia Ballet Company as well as having toured throughout Europe and Canada) Our students are performing at Wonderland, Raptor Dance Team and backup dancers to bands.
