Optimum Health News by Dr. Kathlynn Hoch D.C. Director Rehabilitation Consultant l ncdiqgFoot'U In AtiMetes Very often athletes will present to my office with nonspecific nonspecific nagging pain after competition. As a chiropractor, I assess for a biomechanical malfunction or foot imbalance. Your feet are your foundation, therefore, optimal foot balance and function can help athletes to achieve their best and avoid painful disturbances or injury. A continuous linkage exists in the weightbearing human form extending from the feet through the ankle, tibia, knee, femur, hip joint, pelvis and spine and when movement occurs at any one joint it affects all the others. Your low back pain may be a result of improper weightbearing of the foot and ankle, either Pronation.(rolling in) or Supination (rolling out) of the foot. When pronation or supination exceeds the normal pattern, the stability and biomechanics of the entire musculoskeletal system are at risk. This may create problems with the knee, hips, spine or muscle imbalance. An evaluation can reveal abnormalities. I am fortunate to work together with a physiotherapist and kinesiologist and can provide more detailed assessments or Gait analysis, if necessary. Five red flags that signal Foot Imbalance: 1. Foot flare or toes pointing out 2. Knee rotation 3. Achilles tendon alignment 4. Low arches 5. Shoe wear If orthotics are necessary, then we will do a customized foot cast, weightbearing technique and Foot Orthotics are made from this cast. Seventy-five percent of patients experience complete resolution of their painful problem. Orthotics increase the efficiency of the athlete. The cost of orthotics are very often covered under extended health plans. We also offer Gait Analysis clinics for sports teams to assess the whole team. To book a clinic, call (905) 623-8202 (No fees involved for clinics). The Gators will be returning returning to the ISC Worlds next year, which are in Victoria, B.C., by virtue of winning the 1996 ISC of Eastern Canada league playoff. He said the Gators might have to re-tool for next year. There are rumors floating around the fastball world that ace pitcher Darren Zack will leave the Gators. One such rumor was that he was going to leave Toronto Toronto for the 1996 ISC World Champion Tampa Bay Smokers, Smokers, but Tampa Bay folded their team last week.
