She is accepting the crown from last year's Durham Central Fair ambassador, ambassador, Heather Malcolm. The fair ambassador competition competition occurred at the opening night of the fair on Thursday, September 5. Entries Being Accepted for Poetry Contest The 1996 Ontario Youth Choir ( OYC) has scheduled an appearance in Oshawa as part of its 25th anniversary tour of Ontario. The performance, which will be held on Tuesday, September September 24, 1996, at 7:30 p.m. at College Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church, will mark the first appearance of the OYC in Oshawa in their 25- year history, and they anticipate anticipate that the performance will be an enjoyable experience for participants and audience alike. The concert is hosted by the Durham Philharmonic Choir. OYC is the flagship performing performing body of the Ontario Choral Federation, a non-profit arts service organization dedicated dedicated to the promotion of choral choral music in Ontario. Each year for the past 25 years, singers between the ages of 16 and 22 from across the province have been chosen to become part of the choir. The choirsters meet for 11 days at the end of August for an intensive training period, where they have the opportunity opportunity to study with talented choral musicians and vocal coaches. The choir comes together again for a concert tour the final week of September; each year this tour takes these young ambassadors ambassadors of choral music to a different region of the province. province. The Writers' Circle of Durham Durham Region has just announced announced its second annual Dan Sullivan Memorial Poetry Contest. Contest. Established in 1995 as an annual competition to recognize recognize and promote the original work of poets in Durham, the contest is held in memory of Pickering resident and poet, Dan Sullivan, who passed away last year., The contest is open to people people who live, work or attend school in Durham Region. The three categories are: Children (up to age 12); Youth (up to age 18) and Adult. Prizes will be awarded as follows: children children - $25 First; $15 Second, $10 Third; Youth - $50, $25 and $15; Adults - $100, $50 and $25. Winners in each category category will also receive an award certificate and publication in an anthology. Poems, which must be original original and previously unpublished, unpublished, may be on any subject; maximum 40 lines; typed, double-spaced, double-spaced, one side only on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. As contest will be blind judged, contestant's name must not appear appear on the poem itself.
