Afterwards, the group was treated to a light lunch at Trinity United Church in Bowmanville. HEARING LOSS IS ONE OF THE NATION'S SILENT PROBLEMS For most people hearing loss occurs gradually over a number of years. You begin to realize that you no longer hear the phone ringing or you have to constantly turn up the volume on your radio or TV. You can hear people talk but you don't always understand what's being said. Others can tell if you're straining to hear - even if you think they don't know. If you are having difficulty hearing you are not alone. Hearing loss doesn't have to be a hearing problem. Many hearing difficulties can be improved with a hearing aid or can be medically or surgically treated. Some of today's hearing aids are so small they're barely noticeable. In fact, these days, a hearing loss can be more conspicuous than the hearing aid itself. Of course, no hearing aid can restore a person's natural hearing, and the need for, and ability to adapt from person to person. However, when properly fitted and used, a hearing aid can usually make a significant difference for people with hearing loss. Financial help is available from the Ministry of Health. They contribute $260 towards the purchase of a hearing aid. If you suspect you have a problem, the first step is a hearing evaluation.
