Allen passed away in his 72nd year at Memorial Hos pital, Bowmanville, on October 8,1996, after a brief illness. Marvin was born and educated in Port Hope, Ontario. He was the son of Francis S. Allen and Sarah Jane (Ashmore). Marvin served in the Canadian Army, Signal Corps, from September 25,1941 until February 7,1945. During the war he was a dispatch dispatch rider overseas. On October 18, 1947, Marvin married Margaret Scott of Oshawa, Oshawa, and they have since resided in Bowmanville. Marvin was employed employed by General Motors for 30 years and retired in 1982. He was an active member of Trinity United Church; the Royal Canadian Canadian Legion; the Golden Legionnaires Legionnaires (Glee Club); the Legion Legion Dart League; and the Oshawa Oshawa Radio Controlled Model Airplane Airplane Club. Along with his wife Margaret, Marvin is survived by his five "J's", his most prized possessions. possessions. Marvin was noted as a devoted husband and father, always always making his children the focus of his life. He will be sadly missed by Judy, Janice, Joyce, Joanne and Jill; sons-in-law Rick, Wayne, Robert and Paul; grandchildren Tracey and her husband Paul, Laura, Andrew, Amy, Cory and Donna; and great-granddaughter Taryn. Marvin is also survived by his sister Elva Lightle of Port Hope, brother Bill Allen of Bowmanville, Bowmanville, and the late Rusty Allen. A Legion service was conducted conducted on October 10, 1996 in Marvin's Marvin's memory. The funeral service service was held October 11, 1996, at Morris Funeral Chapel, officiated officiated by Rev. Ann Foster. The organist, Ross Metcalf, led the funeral congregation in the singing singing of "How Great Thou Art", and "Amazing Grace". Pallbearers were Rick Dolan, Wayne Leach, Robert Boyer, Paul Sheehan, Andrew Jenkins and Cory Sheehan. Sheehan. Honourary pallbearers included included Bill Allen, Bill Scott, Les Lightle, Fred Densham, Ab Darch and Norm Gibson. Flower bearers were Paul Chesson and Rick Watson. Christine Noordstra gave the 'Good Neighbour' report. Mrs. T. Kelsey gave the Area Convention report that she and Mrs. R. Metcalf attended attended on October 18 and 19th. Our 2nd Installment of $125 is to be given to Maple Grove Church for our meetings District Fun Fair is at Black- stock United Church on October October 23rd with registration at 1 p.m. Plans were made for our contributions to the Fair. Regular Regular Collection and Pennies for Friendship were taken up. Mrs. S. Found, convenor for Citizenship was in charge of the following program. All sang the Thanksgiving hymn of "Now thank we all our God". Mrs. A. Hall commented on the Motto "There are no such things as bad days, only bad moments in good days". Mrs. Hall introduced our guest speaker Diana Eastwood from the John Howard Society. The John Howard Society was started in the 18th Century by John Howard to improve situations in prisons. Now the Society works not only with individuals who have had a conflict with the law but with other groups as well. Their programs and services are preventive services. Their first job is to assess the needs of each individual. Youth and community involvement involvement help in job search techniques. Futures program is a work experience program. Clients of the John Howard Society Society are encouraged to further their education. There is a literacy and upgrading upgrading program and also a residency program, giving young men independent living skills. There is also a counselling program and a socialization program and they will provide workshops for groups requesting requesting such help. Several questions were well answered during the question period. Mrs. Found moved a vote of thanks to Diana and presented presented her with a donation to the John Howard Society.
