"Second-hand smoke is killing killing non-smokers and making people in its path ill," she says. "It's not only smokers whose lives are at risk. It's children and others who are exposed exposed to cigarette smoke who are getting sick more often and may' eventually die much earlier earlier than they otherwise would." Anita Witty has been very active in the Durham community community for 30 years and has chaired or assisted in numerous charitable events such as the Ajax/Pickering United Way, the Hospital Bed Campaign, and the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. Anita is a real estate broker owning her own firm since 1977, and has been president, twice, of the Durham Durham Region Real Estate Board. Mrs. Witty is the first and only 'life member' of the Kinette Club of Ajax, and she and her husband, Jim, reside in Ajax. "Lung disease continues to be the third leading cause of death in Canada." Anita says. "We're learning more and more about second-hand smoke and other causes of lung disease. We need to continue to educate as many people as we can about preventing lung disease by keeping the air we breathe as clean as possible," she says-.
