Clarington Pauses to Remember In Orono, every local group gets a chance to be part of the ceremony. Here, two youngsters from Scouts Can- ' ada slowly march up the pathway to place a wreath. Every November 11 there are fewer people who remember, remember, and more who don't seem to care. That's an unfortunate sign of the times, says World War Two Lancaster pilot and long-time Kotarian, Keith Billet, who was the featured speaker at the November 7th meeting of the Bowmanville Rotary Club. But fighting apathy isn't the only battle veterans face today. Film productions such as the CBC's now-infamous "The Valor and the Horror" also put them on the defensive. defensive. In Brief... In fact, some veterans were sufficiently angered by the CBC's portrayal of Canadian Canadian soldiers that they responded responded by making their own production, from a soldier's view of valor entitled, "No Price Too High." Billet said audiences could catch the four-part series set to air November 19 - 22 on Channel 17 out of Buffalo. The Valor and Horror was not the first time a crown corporation corporation tried to denigrate Canadian military heroes, says Billet, citing the National National Film Board's treatment of World War One aviator Billy Bishop. Billet doesn't say Canada's Canada's Armed Forces are without without areas for improvement.. But their shortcomings are mostly a reflection of Ottawa's Ottawa's neglect, he points out. "The Canadian military is in a sad state," admits Billet. "Peacekeepers have done us proud in many parts of the world, but we haven't trained them very well nor have we equipped them very well."
