Five goals in the second period lifted the Eagles to a narrow 6-5 victory over the Ajax Axemen in a Provincial Jr. A League game played at the Recreation Complex. The victory removed the proverbial "monkey on the back" of the local club, who were finding victories difficult to come by. In fact, based on their record in the ten games prior to Sunday's tilt, there were enough monkeys running running wild to resemble a sequel to a Planet of the Apes movie. "It was important for the team to get a win tonight," said forward Steve Blais, who collected a goal and three assists. "Winning one game doesn't mean much," he added. "We have to put a string of wins together. We haven't won two games in a row all year." Winning has been a term used sparingly over the last month for the Eagles. Prior to Sunday's game against Ajax, the Eagles had only a win and a tie in their past ten games. They also had a three game losing streak hanging over their heads. The difference in Sunday's game was intensity, said assistant coach, Curtis Hodgins. "We stressed before the game that we had to do the little things right to win the hockey game. "It was nice to get a win under our belts because we have been struggling with our confidence," said Hodgins, who was substituting substituting for head coach Guy Jacob behind the bench. Jacob was in Timmins attending the funeral of a family member. Continued on page 2 by Brad Kelly Bowmanville native Nick Rupa's latest quest for a boxing boxing title was put on hold. Rupa was to have fought Light-Middleweight (154 pounds) Champion Terry Norris this past Saturday night on the undercard of the Mike Tyson/Evander Holyfield heavyweight bout. Due to family family problems. Norris had to withdraw from the fight. Â tentative date of January 11, in Nashville, has been set for Rupa and Norris. That fight would be on the undcrcard of a Lennox Lewis and Oliver McCall heavyweight match Over the summer, Rupa, who now resides in Martinsville, Virginia, had three fights, all resulting in knockouts in his favour.
