A happy tradition was started last year at Bowmanville Bowmanville High School, when hundreds hundreds of students took part in the first annual Terry Fox Run. This year, over 500 students participated in the run on September September 23. Students have raised over $10,300 for cancer research This year the students of Bowmanville High proved once again that they are a vital, caring, part of the community. The last of the pledges was received received November 6 and the students have raised just over $10,300 for cancer research. To raise the money students and staff walked, cycled, ran, skateboarded and hiked from the school along a 4 or 8 km route through town. After the walk, participants were greeted with food and refreshments graciously supplied with the help of Graham's IGA. In the days leading up to the run, students were greeted in the halls by original works of art created by the students of Miss Young, Mr. Matheson and Ms. Anfossi. Mrs. Mund supervised the sale of Terry Fox t-shirts and hats. A teen cancer survivor was the keynote keynote speaker in an assembly organized organized by Ms. Montour. The students'council issued a challenge challenge to all students to do their best for a good cause. Each staff member encouraged maximum maximum participation from their individual home room groups. Mr. Tansley and Mr. Hubbard rallied their class to raise almost almost $600. Outstanding fundraiser fundraiser was Tanya Ludyka who raised $318 on her own. The generosity of the community community is to be commended. In the face of economic hardship and a looming GM strike, people people still found it within themselves themselves to be generous when students asked for pledges. Mr. Forward was delighted that he received donations for prizes for student participants from The Intowne Gallery, Lange's Foto Source, Shooters and Shots, Hands on Music, Computer Computer Doctor, Hooper's Jewellers, Jewellers, Collector's Lane Hobbies II and James Insurance Brokers.
