George was born in Clarke Township, son of the late William William and Irene Mercer. George was educated in Kendal where he lived his entire life. George married the late Dorothy Bernice Elsey in Toronto on April 15,1948. George retired from General Motors Motors after 39 years of service. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Orono, Ontario. Surviving are his children Bruce and Bonnie Mercer, Hampton, Shirley and Brian Foster, Kendal, Kendal, Dorothy and Doug Walker, Kendal, Douglas and Arlene Mercer, Kendal, Bill and Judy Mercer, Ajax, Irene and Alan Walker, Oshawa, 15 grandchildren,4 grandchildren,4 great-grandchildren, and sisters Mrs. Jean Allen, Orono, Mrs. Helen Couroux, Kendal, Mrs. Grace Coatham, Orono and Mrs. Violet Roach, Toronto.
