4-H Munchies Established The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, November 23, 1996 19 We, the 4-H Munchies are a new group started by our leader, leader, Beth Meszaros, and her assistant assistant Kate Lang. Our group members are Andrea Meszaros - President, Brenda Jaspers- Fayer - Secretary, Hannah Spiers - Treasurer, Julie De Jong - Press Reporter. Our first meeting was held on October 12, 1996 at the home of our leader, Beth. The unit we are studying is "The Power of Produce". We are learning about a variety' of foods and how to prepare them. At the meetings we start with the pledge, and then the president president takes over and asks for any new business. After this we head into the kitchen where we start to cook. When the food we are preparing needs to sit on the stove for awhile, or if we are finished with it, we go to the living room. This is a time for talking about different things or playing games that have something to do with 4- H. It was at our third meeting that we all dècided to call ourselves ourselves the Orono/Newcâstle Munchies. retirement from CFRB. We en- In Brief.. So far my favourite has been the Quick Tomato Sauce. Our field trip is one I will never forget. We went to the .Royal Winter Fair. For me it Was a first! We watched the International Superdogs show. It was awesome! awesome! It was great to see the life size butter sculpture of Wally Crouter honouring his joyed watching some of the horse shows, looking at more horses, cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens, goats and other farm animals. There were GIANT vegetables to view and the best from field crops to Christmas trees. We also saw some of the square dancing competition. One of the treats I got to try was tasting my very first candy apple. It was good! I'm sure it won't be my last. I hope to make many more visits to the Royal Winter Fair in the years to come.
