Jean Graham welcomed welcomed all and the Down on the Comer Gang - Steve and Bev Tollctt, Bruce Mortimer and Bonnie Cowle supplied great musical entertainment. Star of the afternoon was, of course, Santa Claus, who gave each child a candy cane. The adults were treated to coffee and hot cider, Christmas cake and cheese. Two beautiful poinsettias (door prizes) were won by Patti Patti Dargie and Pam Daley. On behalf of those who enjoyed the afternoon, we say thank you and hope that everyone shops at home! Mr. Herb.Taylor presided at the Newcastle and District Historical Historical meeting last Monday, November 25th. Mr. Ron Brown was guest speaker. The Lions Den was packed with interested interested members and friends who thoroughly enjoyed his slides and accompanying presentation presentation on .Ghost Railways. There was great contrast in the architecture of the old railway stations and not many have been preserved. With the disappearance disappearance of the railways, also towns disappeared. On Saturday evening Ron and Bertha Powell visited Jennifer Jennifer and Gary Powell, of Whitby, a birthday celebration for Bertha. A very successful benefit night was held Saturday, November November 30th in Newtonville Hall. Jerome Blake, son of Sharon and Randy Blake, Newtonville, suffered a broken back and is in rehabilitation in Toronto and was the recipient of the benefit. Mr. Albert Pearce reports that sister Peggy Visser, of Toronto, Toronto, underwent surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital and hopes to return home this week. On November 22nd Mrs. Pauline Storks attended a reception reception at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, for the 1997 Who's Who of Canadian Women. A delicious barbecued beef dinner dinner and games were enjoyed by 262 people with a grand elimination draw prize of $700.00 won by Don Plain from Bowmanville.
