By Government For the first time in its 50- year history, the YWCA of Oshawa is using direct mail fundraising to support programs programs serving women and children in Durham Region. The mailing follows the loss of another $22,000 in support from the Ontario government, bringing to more than $180,000 the YWCA has lost in provincial funding since 1995. "We need every nickel we can lay our hands on," says YWCA executive director, Eva Martin Blythe. The YWCA Community Partners program, which works to find affordable housing for homeless and abused women and children in Durham, is the latest to have its funding cancelled by the Ontario Ministry of Housing. In 1995, the program served more than 1,700 clients with one fulltime fulltime staff member.
