Unique Community Partnership with Canada Trust As the manager of the new Bowmanville Canada Trust branch, I am pleased to have an opportunity to be a part of this exciting and vibrant community. Canada Trust has always done things differently. We have unique products and services for our customers that set us apart from our competitors. Above all, we have always taken taken an active responsible role in the social and economic live of the communities we serve. Nowhere is our community commitment more evident than in the field of the environment. In 1990, we established the Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation in response to the importance our employees and customers place on their environment. This non-profit organization provides funding support for initiatives that protect and preserve preserve the Canadian environment. During the next few months, we ask you to consider joining as a contributor so that we can support environmental initiatives initiatives right here in our community. Canada Trust makes a contribution to the Foundation each year, based on customer donations, up to a national national maximum of $7 million each year. We are grateful for the efforts of our staff and customers who serve on our volunteer chapter advisory boards in more than 110 communities across the country. They generously give of their time to carefully evaluate each funding application application submitted to their chapter. Our neighbouring Friends of the Environment Durham chapter has helped support some projects in our community, community, among them: the Foundation supported the efforts of students students and teachers from Kirby Centennial High School who joined with members of the community to build the Kirby Ecology Trail - a nature trail that combines environmental education with outdoor activities, Bowmanville High School received funding support for trees and painting materials materials to help naturalize a portion of the schoolgrounds in conjunction with its "Arts Day" celebrations, the Great Ga- naraska Countryside Adventure provided a close-up view of a rural ecological system for many urban dwellers. In conjunction with our new branch opening in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, I am pleased to report that we will be establishing The Ganaraska Forest began as an idea in 1944 with the development of The Ganaraska Watershed Report. The report sparked the conservation movement of Ontario and gave rise to the reforestation of. the Ganaraska River Valley. What was once a desolate, desolate, sand-blown valley left barren from decades of human misuse, is no more. Today, in its place, standing as a remarkable tribute to 50 years of con- termination of a community, lives the 10,500 acres Ganaraska Forest. The Ganaraska Forest and its 20 million, trees play a vital role in our ecosystem. The trees act as a windbreak, windbreak, their roots trapping soil, preventing preventing erosion and river Hooding. The trees absorb carbon dioxide as well as providing food and habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals. The forest provides a natural setting for recreational enjoyment. Our conservation efforts are still in need of support. Ongoing reforestation reforestation must continue.
