I Auto Body Impressive The Newcastle Auto Body Midget/Juvenile Hockey Team, coached by Rick Powell, Powell, is just completing a very impressive first half of their 1996/1997 season. The twelve games played up to December 5, have been very exciting and entertaining, with the team proving to be quite successful. To date, they have put together a very convincing record of 9 wins-2 losses-1 tie, including three shutouts. They are scoring scoring an average of four goals per game while maintaining a goals against average of just 1.75 The players have come together together as a competitive team much sooner than the coaching staff had expected. With such an enthusiastic start, everyone is eager to start the second half of the season to see what they can accomplish. The players have displayed a mature attitude attitude by means of hard work and good sportsmanship all through their away games, and at their regularly scheduled Thursday night home games at nine o'clock at the Newcastle Arena. The Clarington/Çourtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, December 14, 1996 5 Dennis Pizzeria Tie Panthers The Dennis Pizzeria Minor Toros played the Pickering Panthers on Sunday, December 8. The Toros got off to a great start scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game. Brian Allore scored first for Dennis Pizzeria, set up nicely by David Ross, just 38 seconds into the first period. Tim Lew added another goal on a good shot from the point 59 seconds later. After the opening flurry, both teams started to play a more defensive style of hockey. The Toros and Panthers traded chances until 1:12 into the second second period. Chad Deighton scored on a shot from the slot to open a three-goal margin. Assisting on the Toros third goal was Stephen Bathe and Hailey VanSeggelen. There was no scoring for the remainder remainder of the second period. The third period belonged to the Panthers. The Toros had several chances to clear the puck from their own zone when the Panthers banged home their first goal. It came two and a half minutes into the third period. The Panthers drew within one halfway through the third period while on a power play. The Toros has several good chances to get some insurance but were stonewalled stonewalled by the Pickering goalie. With four seconds remaining, the Panthers tied the game on a shot from the blueline. The game finished in a 3-3 tie. Playing an outstanding game defensively were Adam Derks, Andrew Albertini, Ian Knox, Jason Sulyma, Tim Lew and Corey Prince.
