That's the way the players of the midget Eagles Select team must have felt returning returning from their latest tournament tournament in Marmora on Saturday, December 14. In each of their first two tournaments of the season, they had played well enough to compete in the 'A' championships but were unable unable to finish the tournaments with wins. However, the 'A' Championship did not elude the midget Eagles this time. In their opening game against the Norwood selects, the midget midget Eagles emerged with a 4-0 victory. Steve Tabb scored first with assists earned by Jamie Potter and Scott Slack. Andrew Eaton doubled the score in the second period while Brock Baker and Joel Osborne each notched a goal in the third. Against the Marmora Mid gets in their second game, Nathan Nathan Osborne wasted not time getting thé Clarington Midget Eagles on the scoreboard. Less than a minute into the period, he got the assistance he needed from Brock Baker and Andy Griffin to put the scorekeeper to work. Steve Tabb was able to beat the Marmora goalie a second time in the next period to give the Eagles Selects a 2-0 lead. However, 1 that lead was reduced to one when Marmora scored late in the period. In spite of some pressing offence, the midget Eagles were unable to add to their side of the scoreboard in the third period. Meanwhile, Marmora scored once more to end the game at a 2-2 tie. Although the Clarington Clarington Eagle Selects would have liked to hold on to the win, the tie still earned them a place in the 'A' Championship. As luck would have it, the Marmora Selects also ended up in the championship game. In that game, it was clear that Marmora had no intentions of giving their opponents a two- goal lead, as they had before. Just over a minute into the game, Marmora netted the important important first goal. However, the Midget Eagles tightened up their defense to shutdown the Marmora sharpshooters from further scoring until late in the third. However by that time, The Clarington Selects had notched four goals. Chris Henry and Brock Baker each scored once while Steve Tabb added two. Assists were earned by Jason Knox, Scott Slack, Nathan Osborne, Andrew Eaton Eaton and Ryan Wood. This 4-2 victory gave the Midget Eagles their first 'A' Championship this season and probably made their long ride home more enjoyable enjoyable than their returns from previous tournaments.
