On Thursday evening the Newcastle Seniors enjoyed their annual Christmas dinner at the Newcastle Community Hall. The Anglican Church Women, supported by some gentleman, served a delicious turkey dinner to about 125. The seniors look canned goods for the food bank. Lucky draws were made for the poinsctlias which graced the thirteen tables. President Albert Pearce announced that Alec and Marilyn Martin have accepted the presidency for 1997. Mrs. Helen Nesbitt and Kathleen Kimball who have been the lunch committee for years were presented with poinsctlias for all their past work and Margaret Wade, Alice Hopson and Marilyn Marlin have consented to be the 1997 lunch committee. . Stanley Powell presented Albert Albert Pearce with a poinsettia in appreciation of his devotion to the seniors' club all these years. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Country Kids who performed many intricate square dances called by Roland Bowman. Providing music for them were Doreen Lowery on piano, James Lowery, with his fiddle, and Cannon Irwin with banjo. The remainder of the evening Bonnie Cowle entertained with songs, supported by Jean Lc- pinc at the piano, Bruce Mortimer Mortimer playing drums and Carmen Carmen Irwin. President Albert Pearce presented Robin (Ibbot- son) Rickard with a cheque for S300 for the Continuing Care Unit of Memorial Hospital, Bowmanvillc. Christmas cake and juice were enjoyed at the close of the evening. The Chamber of Commerce held a wine and cheese parly on Monday night in the Lions Room. On Thursday evening Mr. Bruce Alldrcd, Port Hope, and daughters Robin and Erin, were supper guests of Mrs. Myrtle Alldrcd.
