New Sculpture Installation At Visual Arts Centre In 1990 artist Tony Cooper initiated a project to place a sculpture on the Municipality of Clarington lands that surround the Visual Arts Centre (Soper Creek Park). With support from the Ontario Arts Council Venture Fund, and working with the municipality, municipality, the sculpture called "Reflection on Place" was completed in April of 1994. A policy was then established established with the approval of the municipality to make Art on Public Lands a continuing continuing venture for future installations installations in Soper Creek Park. In October of 1996 Watcrdown artist V. Jane Gordon's earthwork was selected as the next sculptural sculptural piece in Soper Creek Park. Gordon plans to create a path of pine bark which will, in her words, "infiltrate and integrate the wild and cultivated areas of the natural natural environment around the mill." The history of the site will be remembered through the planting of several varieties varieties of barley on a mound created from sod displaced for the path. Jurors included Av Isaacs, sculptors Theo Willemse and Marianne Lovink, artist/curator Penelope Stewart, and Tony Cooper, whose work is currently currently on exhibit in the park. Teen Accountability Group Gels Results Do you have a teenager who is making poor choices - skipping school, experiencing conflict within the family, experimenting with drugs, showing aggressive behaviour, behaviour, lying, stealing or simply challenging authority? TAG (Teen Accountability Group) gets results, and can put your teen on the road to making good choices. TAG will give your-child an opportunity to take control of his or her life in a safe environment. This will allow them to examine how they cause harm to themselves themselves or others and provide alternative choices based on responsibility and accountability. accountability. TAG was developed and is being facilitated by Greg Milne, an experienced youth crisis Counsellor who has a genuine desire to see teens succeed and learn to make good choices. Greg has a B.Sc. Psych, degree from University of Toronto, has spent several years working with young offenders in treatment treatment homes in Scarborough, and facilitated the New Choices Men's Group for men convicted of assaulting their partners. He is currently working for the Durham Board of Education as a school-based Counsellor, working full time with high risk students. Greg won the Counsellors' Association of the Region of Durham 1996 Counsellor of the Year Award. In addition, Greg and his wife are specialized foster parents for children with emotional . or behavioural challenges. A new TAG group will be starting shortly and spaces are limited. 'The group consists consists of eight'j^O-minute sessions sessions that identify and challenge challenge the manipulations and patterns that' teens use to avoid : responsibility for their actions. The group is learning-based learning-based and concrete, and does not require extensive self-disclosure. It is therefore useful (in fact designed for) teens who have not made gains in or been exposed to traditional counselling. The group allows teens to learn what accounatability is and how it gives them greater control over their own lives. The group uses, a variety of techniques including teaching, teaching, questionnaires, role plays, discussion, group support, support, leader confrontation and personal life experiences.
