A week prior to this event, our race car was in pieces awaiting parts. Through the help of team owner Bumey Cochrane, car builder Ed O'Brien and many prayers, we arrived at Daytona not quite ready to go racing. A mad scramble for performance performance parts from the Pontiac truck and other teams; the guys put their heart and soul into getting the new #10 Goodwrench/Snap-On /PPG Firebird on the track. Still playing with set up and getting other squeaks out of the car, co-driver Darren Law qualified the Goodwrench/Snap-On/PPG Firebird 15th for the season opener. Terry MacDonald-Cadieux would start the two hour race in the car her husband built for her from scratch back in 1994. "This car is very special special to me; as my husband built it from tub up. We finished finished second in the Canadian Endurance Championship that year, and I was named Most Improved Driver of the year. Now with the help of last year's crew chief, Ed O'Brien, we will race this car again. It was a nightmare making this car IMSA legal as the Canadian rules are so different," different," commented Terry. The start was not a great one for anyone in the inside row. As the green flag dropped a brake check was in progress. "Normally everyone everyone starts to accelerate in second second gear with a quick change to third. As I hit red line in second, about to shift into third, the Mustang in front of me hit his brakes. I was too close to go around him, so I had to hit my brakes also. Some guys behind me hit their brakes, while others drove to the inside. As I hit the first turn, I was in 30th position," adds Terry. MacDonald-Cadieux drove her heart out, radioing back to the crew that the car felt pretty good. Within thirty minutes, MacDonald- Cadieux was n normal fashion, fashion, catching and passing cars every lap. At the half way point she was up into eleventh and about to make a pass for tenth. With no cautions, teams figured this would be a green flag race. Teams started to get ready for fuel stops and driver changes. MacDonald- Cadieux was among the first half of the cars to pit under green. Law took over the driving driving duties for the last hour. But his day was not as good. With only five racing laps, the first yellow flag appeared. Everyone that had not yet pitted, pitted, now had a big advantage. But this was not the only yellow, yellow, the field saw three more yellows before the officials called the race over. The Goodwrench/Snap- On/PPG team found themselves themselves in twelfth place. "I'll take 12th. If you had asked me a week ago if we would make this race, I would have given you a "I don't know look, so 12th is great," said MacDonald-Cadieux. On a sad note, the driver of the 99 Honda del sol passed away Friday evening in Daytona. Mr. Himes' race car hit the wall just after the bus stop on the back straight away during the race. Our prayers are with his family. The next race on the schedule will be held in Sebring, FL. IMSA will hold a five hour race Friday, March 14th. Liberty Mutual Posts Back to Back Victories In CRHL League Play Liberty Mutual's Novice hockey club looks to be in playoff form coming off convincing convincing back-to-back wins. Saturday, February 8, Liberty dominated Union Oil. Highlighting this total team effort was a four point performance performance (including a hat trick) from Kyle McGrath. Justin Hill was in fine form adding a pair of goals to his collection. Justin's first goal was assisted by up and coming star Joel Cowles, who seems to be gaining more confidence in his already'considerable abilities abilities every week. Bradley Low displayed his uncanny hockey sense for an eight- year-old by capitalizing on Union Oils defensive errors, and was rewarded with a late first period goal that extin- quished any pretense of a comeback. Sunday, Liberty had an incredibly slow start thanks in a large part to Thursday Night Hockey's blitzkrieg attack. Netminder Derek Carruthers and Liberty's defence, were severely challenged challenged for the first ten minutes, minutes, spending most of the period in their own end.
