Freedom to Read Week Declared in Clarington February 24 to March 2nd, is Freedom to Read Week in Clarington. A letter to Clarington Councillors from the Clarington Public Library states, "Freedom to Read Week is an annual event sponsored by the Canadian book and magazine industry, industry, which focuses public attention on the issue of intellectual intellectual freedom, Across Canada, schools, bookstores, and libraries will promote displays of censored materials and educate the public public about censorship and its effect on a democratic society. At the Clarington Library, we will host displays of materials in our collection which have been banned, challenged or removed from school libraries and bookstores," states a letter from Stephanie Creighton, Chair of the library board. two branches Second Marsh 8 ■gj \ 3 r e v The first of many organizations organizations looking for funding from the Municipality of Clarington's grant program stood before municipal councillors councillors at a committee of Clarington Council earlier this month. Carole Sevsmith, speaking speaking on behalf of a group hoping' hoping' to preserve Oshawa's Second Marsh, asked councillors councillors to consider the Second Marsh's Stewardship Program for funding. The project will include three segments: a land-owner program, an education program program and an adopt-a-stream program. The members of the General Purpose and Administration Committee sent the request for funding to budget deliberations. The group did not indicate an amount it hoped to receive.
