Donors such as Janet Coates, White Rose, Fantasy Silks, and the Municipality of Clarington are the generous sponsors of awards for this craft event; In addition, the prestigious Ontario Crafts Council Design Award will be given. Wood, clay, fibre and fabric are some of the media explored in Winter's Harvest. This annual show is an exposition of the exemplary, featuring a wide range of crafts from across the province. The juror, Kai Chan of Toronto, will exhibit a piece of his own work as well. Winter's Harvest also includes a mould making workshop with Judy Mintz, who is working at the centre as an artist in residence. Students and staff at Courtice Secondary School opened their building to the public Tuesday evening, February 18th, in order to show the wide range of extra-curricular activities activities which occur at the school. The school's technology rooms were among the many areas where students displayed their talents. Here, Bob Ball works on the basketball-playing robot designed by the students and named "Candu." The device is the work of about 100 students from Courtice Secondary School. At a competition in Scarborough last weekend, the device earned a design award in a national contest involving 22 schools. The challenge posed by the competition was to design ^ robot which could sink baskets.
