I Reader Questions Need For Charity Casinos The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, March 26, 1997 Page 5 65th Anniversa, y :clcbrat Mary and Donald Snow of Bowmanville celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary with their children on Wednesday, March 26th at Casino Rama, Orillia. They were married in Halifax, Nova Scotia, March 26, 1932. Mary and Don have 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dear Editor, Recently, the Harris government government enacted a policy which will establish permanent permanent charity casinos in 44 Ontario communities. Government sponsored gambling is an activity which docs not belong in the government government arena. Gambling is a social activity that can become addictive and destructive to personal and family stability. It encourages greed as a way to financial security. The government uses questionable means to justify the ends: income assistance assistance to community programs and services. Government must serve its citizens through an equitable distribution distribution of income and resources, not from gambling income. This is a moral issue that demands principled, not expedient, action. I urge the citizens of communities communities that arc slated for these casinos to become informed and lobby the government government against this action; It can be done: the people of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., have just voted overwhelmingly overwhelmingly to kick video lottery lottery terminals out of town. Sincerely, Joanne Spoelstra EDITOR'S NOTE: But if we don't have "charitable" casinos, will the government be forced to raise faxes?
