Newcastle Lions News New Officers and Members Welcomed In preparation for the new Lions year, beginning on July 1, the Newcastle Lions Club held their Installation of Officers on June 11 at the Port of Newcastle Marina. The affair took place in a large tent on the marina grounds and was ably catered by the marina staff. President Terry Graham acted as chairman and welcomed welcomed the 30 members with their spouses as well as seven guests to the annual event. . After a delicious hot and cold buffet dinner, Chairman Terry asked the Induction Committee to assemble and induct two new members into the Newcastle Lions Club. Past Zone Chairman, R. Lovekin ably assisted by five Past Presidents proceeded to induct Dwight Napier, sponsored by Lion Denis Walker and Jean Graham, sponsored by Lion Terry Graham into the Newcastle Lions Club. After the induction the new Lions were warmly welcomed by all present. Next, Lion Terry asked Past District Governor, Lion Brenton Rickard to install the new slate of officers who had been elected to their offices at a previous meeting. Installed were Lions Peter DeJong as Lion Tamer, Sam Lemon as Tail Twister, Dennis Walker and Garry Saxby as one year Directors, Joe Mendonca and Greg Forget as two year Directors, John Bugelli as Treasurer, Frank Hoar as Secretary, Mike Carter as Third Vice President, Paul Bennett as Second Vice President, Mike Swaga as First Vice President and George Rickard as President. Award to a Lion that he had sponsored in 1961. This Lion, Stan Powell, along with his wife, Kay, came forward to accept this prestigious honour. Brenton noted that Lion Stan had held almost all the offices and had served on most of the committees in this club during his years of membership as well as having 100% attendance attendance since 1968. Lion Stan is always one of the first to volunteer volunteer for any task and is well deserving of this award. Lion Terry presented certificates certificates of appreciation to many Newcastle Lions who had made his year special. In his "remarks from the Outgoing President" Terry thanked all Lions for their special special efforts during the 50th Anniversary Year. Commenting that he had a great year and felt that the club had lived up to the Lions • Motto "We Serve". . Following "the passing of the gavel" President-elect, Lion George Rickard, listed his six goals for the Newcastle Lions for the upcoming year. Sympathy is extended to relatives and friends of James McCaustlin whose funeral service service was held on Tuesday evening, June 17 at the Newcastle Funeral Home.
