Two OHL teams picked a total of three players in their annual entry draft on Saturday, June 7, at Maple Leaf Gardens. St. Stephen's Honours its Athletes of Year Bowmanvillc's Chris Kelly, who played with Aurora of the Metro League this year, was picked in the fourth round, 56th overall by the London Knights. London chose Jason Lange, who played with Peterborough of the Provincial Jr. A League this year. He was chosen in the sixth round with the 99th overall pick. The third Bowmanville player to be drafted was Chris Pot by the Erie Otters (formerly (formerly the Niagara Falls Thunder) in the ninth round, 147th overall. Pot played with Port Hope in the Metro League this season. "London phoned me and asked if I'd report if they picked me and I said yes." -Jason Lange The only Bowmanville Eagle chosen in the draft was Josh Bade in the 12th round, 208lh overall by the Windsor Spitfires. Suffice to say, Lange was ecstatic about being drafted by London. "It feels great. It's what I've worked hard for all year," Lange said in a recent interview: "London phoned me and asked if I'd report if they picked me and I said yes". The night before the draft, the Belleville Bulls contacted Lange, but never picked him. "They phoned me the night before and they sounded high on me, but I guess they didn't want me", he told the Statesman. Lange feels his chances of making London, who were one of the OHL's worst teams this year, are good. They have a centre position open and he's confident of filling that spot. Last weekend (June 13- 15), Lange attended London's mini-camp, where he was shown around the city. Lange, 17, was just one of hundreds of players who attended the June 7 OHL Draft at Maple Leaf Gardens. "It was a long, nervous wait, but it was a great experience," experience," he said with a smile.
